Boulderguy
I read somewhere it's the car's way of telling you the roads may be icy.

LegacyGT 05
I'm thinking rtfm, but that would be rude I guess It will blink at 37F or below when you start the car to let you know it might be icy.....

Architeuthis
I remember the A4 used to do something similar. It would display a snowflake on the display to warn you things might be slick.

I love the germans...they do everthing w/ neat lil symbols... always though that was real classy... Like you had to acutally know the car somewhat well to know what all the lil' symobls represent... Like you had to acutally know the car somewhat well to know what all the lil' symobls represent...Actually you can thank the European Council for that. CE prefers everything to be in pictograms instead of written warnings or instructions. It can be a real pain in the ass sometimes for us U.S. companies that export to Europe actually...but I suppose it beats translating "icy" into 5 or 6 languages. FYI, I think it blinks if the temp drops while driving too. So, if while you're road tripping in your toasty warm scooby the temp drops close to zero, it will blink to let you know that despite your butt being cooked by the heated leather seats, your tires may not be so happy. gt_ltd
is the computer able to display negative temp in F? it "only" got to 4F few days ago... maybe someone from alaska or north pole knows? This Space For Rent
jazzymt
Yep. Mine hit -6 last week. Negative is no problem for the display...the starter might be a different story. It threatened not to start with that 'dead battery' sounding wurr wuur wuuuraw, but it still turned over after a couple cranks. Then, that was followed by a horrible screeching/grinding sound that slowly faded away over the next 30-60 seconds as it warmed up...what the hell was that?! Starter solenoid perhaps? While on the subject of cold, I also realized the rest of the display (trip/odo/CD/ACC) must be VFD & not LCD that I previously suspected because they weren't affected by the cold at all whereas my poor XM display was a blur of (nearly) frozen liquid crystals. Cynder
It will display to -25 or -27, the same as most vehicles with an outside temp guage. BTW, Northpole is in Alaska. It's where Santa Claus lives--about 20 miles south east of Fairbanks.
mlloydlgt
I heard it has something to do with reminding you to turn on the anti-ice feature.
