How to install AVO Turbo Inlet hose

Recommended Posts

Let me start off by saying that these steps may very from application to application. I have other corresponding mods around the inlet area and so it may be a bit different for you to remove and replace.

Also not responsible if you screw up.

I do not have pics of actually removing the stock inlet, buts its fairly easier to remove it if you do it my way.

Step One:

Remove your top mount or your turbo/ hotside pipe. Remove your intake and/ or aftermaf hose. Remove your boost solenoid/ ebcs. Remove your map sensor. Remove the two forward hoses attached to the inlet. Now, if you look through the intake manifold and on-top of the inlet, you'll see the pcv sensor. Use a long flat head and pop that sucker off the inlet (should just slide off)

Step Two:

Now that most of the attachments are off the inlet. We still have to deal with the bpv return hose and breather hose. Grab a 8mm socket and a long extension or a flat head and loosen the clamp to the turbo. Since my inlet is old, I'm junking it and I'm sure you'll do so also. Go ahead and pull on the inlet forcing it off. the bpv return hose will eventually come off, that clamp could only hold it for so long.

Yay, it's off. Now get a hasmat suit on because I bet that inlet looks disgusting!

Time to prepare to get that fancy inlet in. First thing, first you'll want wiggle room.

Step Three:

Remove your turbo coolant lines uptop and hide them away. Loosen the bolt holding your turbo reservoir and flip it towards the turbo carefully. Remove the three 10mm bolts along the top of the intake manifold holding onto your plastic breather hose lines and bpv return hose.

Step Four:

Not necessary, but it will be easier if you move the bpv hose line out of the way. (doesn't have to be all the way out, just enough so you can slide your new inlet in later). unplug your 'drive by wire sensor'. Remove your pcv solenoid/elbow and it's vac line out of the way. Unplug your knock sensor and the bpv vac line from the blue T- connector. Now slide the bpv hose out a bit.

Step Five:

Unbolt your intake manifold. Were not removing it, just want to be able to lift it if need to be. Just eight 12mm bolts. Four on each side. If you do life your manifold make sure the gaskets don't slide out of place come reinstall time.

Prepping the inlet

Step Six:

Test fit the inlet and check for clearances and fitment. It will help to add a little grease on the turbo end to slide in. It also helps to push and twist on the inlet to align onto turbo and pass that 'kick' the tgv has next to the turbo. Also lifting the manifold will help. I got a better fitment after I trimmed about 3/8 of an inch, maybe less. A sharp razor cut like butter.

Step Seven:

Grease all the fittings on the inlet and attachments This includes the nipples, lines and turbo. Don't put too much though. A dab is fine.

Note: I replace one of the L shape nipples to a T shaped one to fit my ebcs and blocked off the large nipple on the front of the inlet.

Step eight:

Reinstall your inlet. You might want to get a slightly bigger clamp than the stock one for your turbo. Once you're satisfied with fitment, tighten down the inlet.

Step Nine:

Reinstall your bpv return hose. It's pretty easy if you have greased this fitting on the inlet. Instead of bearing the pain of using hose clamps, swap our for a worm clamp and place it on your return hose before fishing it back onto the intet. Once one go ahead and tighten it down. Make sure your hose is not facing sideways, but inline with manifold.

Step Ten:

Now we start to move in reverse order. Go ahead and tighten down all your loose items. Start with the Manifold, reinstall your connectors/ sensors, pcv elbow and vac line, T-connector hoses. Breather hoses and vac lines back on the inlet. Reinstall turbo reservoir and coolant lines.

Step Eleven:

The only thing left will be your "pcv diagnostic sensor" dangling around. What I did was guide it out of the way and found nice little spot for it :) . It doesn't do anything so don't worry about it.

NOTE: You may have to cut and shorten one of your ebcs vac lines to get a nice fit. here's what I did.

Step Twelve:

The only thing left is to reinstall your intercooler, intake, reset ECU and go !

Cheers.
