Saying goodbye

Recommended Posts

I just traded my lgt today. It was bittersweet. I loved the car but was tired of the shitty gas mileage and all the problems I was having. And since I lived in a area where Subarus are not popular at all and the closest subaru dealer did not want to fix my car since it was under warranty and told me to never bring my car back there again. So I now have a new civic

We'll that's unfortunate but I can understand the frustration. This Legacy is the first Japanese car I've owned. I've only had American before.. I thought this thing would be trouble free as I had always heard about Japanese cars. It has never failed on me but the never ending oil leaks are annoying.. I hate oil leaks and smelling the burning oil on the exhaust coming through the vents..

And seeing what appears to be the weekly post of another turbo failure or another engine losing compression from broken ring lands or bad valves always has me thinking... when will it be my turn... The banjo filter is clean and I only use synthetic oil so I don't think the turbo will fail on me, but that ringland issue sure doesn't give one a good feeling...

I'm a little verbose today...

I don't understand this part at all... if your car was covered under warranty then why didn't you call SoA and tell them their dealership was denying valid warranty coverage. If a dealer was denying valid coverage the last thing I'd do is go out and by a Civic... I'd call a lawyer and have them place a call to the dealer and SoA...

I guess I could have done all that. But still I could never trust taking my car there again. They did not deny my warranty they deny hearing anything wrong with my car.

You really have to be your own advocate for your car's care these days.

Service departments are booked solid and if they don't find an issue within 30 seconds then there's nothing wrong with your car.

Fortunately my dealer is pretty good, especially one of the techs. I've been in the service bay while they've worked on the car, handed the techs the parts I wanted used, etc...

Having a extended warranty is not always good if dealer is not that great.

Sorry it did not work out. If MPG is your thing enough or at least validates your change up perfect car for it. My Civic and wife's previous albeit 90's ones where flawless cars over 250k miles and delivered 30-35MPG constantly.

I don't love my local Subaru dealer either but have 3 other choices <30 mins away(New England). If I did not have Subaru specialist who was inexpensive and pleasant to deal with I would have long sold off my wife's 2005 LGT 5mt wagon. It has become more troublesome >150k miles where flawless before.

My LGT has never let me down in terms of reliability, it has always gotten me there and back....... but the stinking repairs have been worse than any car I ever owned.... except the Saab 9/3 my ex wife had.

It's paid for so I'll take the repair costs until it becomes unreliable.

Not a bad choice if you dont mind how much did you get on trade for the LGT?

14000 only had 40000 miles on it and a loud knock. I told my salesperson he did not care

Well damn ^^^ I only ask b/c I may soon dump the LGT for Camry and wanted to know how bad of an offer I might hear. While I have 90K on the clock there is no knock or other issues so I'm hoping for $12K trade or $14K private.

You should post the VIN so no one gets a "steal of a deal" :)

Sorry to hear about the troubles you went through with your LGT. I know all about shady dealer actions being that my LGT isn't perfect either and I went through hell to even get it close to where it is now. These cars are fairly reliable in their powertrain but there is always the trouble of the repair being outrageous when it does come. I'm considering getting rid of mine, but I doubt I'll get anywhere near what I owe on the loan. Good luck with your new Civic.:)
