For those who tracked both 07+ spec.B and 2011+ WRX

Recommended Posts

I am wondering how those 2 compare in handling department. WRX has less weight, wider track, hopefully improved susp. geometry but spec b has Torsen LSD in rear and some aluminum susp. bits. 6MT is an obvious improvement but let's leave that out for now. Let's assume we are talking stock suspension on both cars.

I can always swap in whatever I want, like the whoel sti drivetrain but let's talk stock for stock? Why do you think WRX is better track car? Let's leave turbo aside. VF 52 is obviously superior. I would think that 6MT and REAR torsen shift advantage more towards spec b, no?

I understand WRX has less weight and wider track but without LSD I have hard time believing it's so much better on high speed track compared to spec b or even regular LGT. How does open diff behaves in high speed turns on tarmac. Wouldn't it tend to understeer with all the torque wasted on the inside wheel?

It seems to me that you have already made up your mind and are looking for people on the Internet to validate your decision. If that's the case and you have based your decision about which car is superior for your purposes based on the number of cogs in the trans and the limited slip diff then go track the spec b and be happy.

Personally, I own an lgt with a BNR 16g, a 2011 wrx, and an 04 sti track car. The sti is my track car for a reason. The wrx is my daily driver and the lgt does wife duty.

Dude relax, all I have is data on the paper which tells me that tranny and LSD put spec b ahead. THat's why I ask. Looking for facts and reason why. 'Because WRX' is a weak reason so I am hoping to get educated. I am considering WRX and trying to be objective. I did drive 08 in the past for a moment but not on the track so didn't have a chance to push it. Posts from people like you, that own/drive both is exactly what I am looking for. Did you drive both LGT and WRX on the track?

There's a reason why people choose the WRX/STi for the track and the LGT to be a daily driver.

2 people in this thread have 11+ WRX's. Both agree that they were better on the track than the LGT/Spec. B. Both Agree that the Spec. B is better for normal driving (it's much more comfortable).

Your profile states that you already have the Spec. B. Are you looking to sell that and buy a WRX to be a track car? Are you looking to simply buy a WRX in a ddition to your Spec B for track duty? If the latter is what you were thinking then you should buy an older WRX or STI, not a new one.

I am not a direct example but I would be a fairly good one and as a track instructor for 10+ years feel qualified to answer...

I owned a 05 LGT Wagon 5MT.

Modified and tracked it.

Konis, LCA Bushings, SRB, RCK, STi Pinks, some other stiffening, front brembos, SPT CBE, and a few other bits. Nothing motor or trans related.

I sold it and bought a 2011 STi.

The STi was about 95% as good as my 05 LGT was on track (modified LGT v. stock STi). I think the LGT was actually more fun on track and I can't put a handle on why. However for the 99% of the time I wasn't driving on track, I beg for my 05 LGT back.

As for the missing LSD, unless you are a superior driver or actually competitively road racing your car, you won't miss it.

Hope this helps.

Or putting down more than 350whp? I feel like I could use a front LSD.

Yeah that too, but then you should have been upgrading everything, not just the HP while you are doing it.

You know I've got basically everything I want except a front LSD. With under 350whp upgraded suspension bits and uber sticky tires were more than adequate to put down power exiting a turn..

I know, just busting your balls :)
