otter4x4
I decided I didn't like the chrome on my front grill and got inspiration from you all here on the forums to do something about it. I felt that since I had a perfect fitting stock piece in there with a nice design, why go buy a $400 aftermarket grill? So here's my work/results. Note: this is my first sand/paint job I've ever done on any car. I'm very proud of the results! Masked the emblem off well and didn't get a single bit of paint on it! Thanks for checking it out- let me know what you think!
GTTuner
Pic's are not that great but it makes the car look sinister, nice job!
ndmx52
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that's going to chip like crazy. The chrome pretty much needs to be removed completely if you want any paint to stick well. (I learned the hard way) I believe Pastidip works well however, but I can't personally confirm. otter4x4
Darn, wasn't aware of that. I had an autobody tech I work with tell me that it just needed to be sanded pretty well. And I wasn't aware that all of the chrome could come off haha. He gave me a can of DuPont Satin Black spray paint to use. I also put 3 coats on it. I'll definitely keep an eye out for any chipping, thank you!
Ballaholic
looks good!!!, I did that same mod awhile back, don't worry about chipping, Its not really that bad. I have had mine done for 4 years and only had to redo it once. Had prolly less than ten rock chip marks.
AkumaMax
See now this looks good. I was debaiting on going with a custom grill with just the mesh and emblem but wasn't sure on the look of it on my Silver car. This however looks good. Maybe so black chrome would look good. Please get some better daytime pictures I would love to see it.

ndmx52
Just PlastiDip and forget it. Took me many tries before I figured that out
EJ25subie05
i used plasti dip on my spec b grille and its holding up better then my lgt grille was when i did the wire mesh mod.
.Catalyst.
Definitely go with Dip. Hate to say that but it holds up better. I spent a good amount of time sanding, used adhesion promoter, and the wings I painted with quality trim paint are already chipping. Dipping it all outside of the emblem over the weekend. Shotokan1509
I really need to do mine.. who has directions how to pull the grill out? (dont want to break any clips or something)
famaya26
Well there's two bolts (10mm) that secure the grill to the bumper. Take those off and then there's clips that hold it on there as well. They has a small hole on top, I use a small Phillips Head screw driver to poke them lose. Be careful as they can break easily. otter4x4
I got PlastiDip to redo it with, good call everyone It started chipping on my 9,000 mile drive to, in/around, and home from Colorado this summer. Will "dip" it tomorrow after I soda blast all of the old paint and chrome off!

Rattsl
That looks really good, and doesn't look bad or cheap either. I may have to go that route temporarily before I am ready to do the Crown Vic grille mod. This looks clean too and will look nice on my OBP.
