LegacyXP
Hi, I recently purchase 2008 2.5GT with Navigation on June 30th and have a question about SI-Drive Mode. Can I switch while the car is moving? Thanks, Q
axis008
Yep, you can. -ben
LegacyXP
Thank You, because the owner's manual never explains if it can be switch while driving
axis008
You're welcome and don't worry about changing it. Just don't change it in excess. The "S#" button on your steering wheel was apparently placed there in case you were in I or S mode and needed the extra ooomph such as in passing another car. -ben
rouar
You're welcome and don't worry about changing it. Just don't change it in excess. Curious why?
Zed 2.0
There isn't any reason. You could change it every minute with no problems--it's just throttle mapping.
axis008
Correct, there is no problem. Sorry for the misguided information. There's just no reason to change it that often. -ben
Crawdaddy79
You can flip the knob for an added beep to your music and it probably wouldn't hurt anything.
LGTWRX
Howdy all I just got my 08 LGT and have been having mucho fun with SI-Drive. Nothing better than being in 'I' at 3200 rpm and switching to S#. Very cool to be able to change the mapping on the fly.
Oregon_Legacy
I rotate that knob while driving all of the time. I have been playing with it since April 28 and it has not destroyed my car. But I also change the modes on the steering wheel.
LegacyXP
I'm loving my Legacy GT with Navigation, and today I'm getting Paint Sealant done on my Car at the Dealer. I just hope it doesn't rain during the morning

Richard B.
What are I and S modes? well...since the car NEVER starts in S# i'm sure yo uknow at least what s is.
SLegacy99
Since I have no SI drive knob I have to do it manually. My feet decide which mode to be in.
FIB-Jim
Since newer LGT's have electronic throttle SI drive can come in handy for certain driving situations. It also changes the rev shift points. Correct me if I am wrong. I= Intelligence mode Ex. I am cruising on the highway I can get more MPG by putting the car into I mode, the car spitting less fuel into the combustion chamber. This mode also gives slower throttle response. S= Sport mode for almost every day driving, this mode gives you 3/4 beans throttle. S#= Sport Sharp! This mode gives you full beans throttle and lets you explore full potential of that perky four boxer turbo. MPG drops a ton when on full throttle. On the highway toward Chicago and I am stuck behind a minivan that says "go brewers" my FIB instincts tell me to press the S# button on the steering wheel (which kicks the SI drive from I to S#) and pass the cheese heads like the FIB I am (probably 12mph over speed limit). SLegacy99
So my question is when the EPA tests the LGT for fuel economy, do they do it in I, S, or S# mode? Or perhaps they do an average.

SLegacy99
S mode would make the most sense. Perhaps then Subaru should set the default to I and up their CAFE standard which they are very much so lacking in.
Oregon_Legacy
if you want to know the differences between the three modes, here is a link for you from the Subaru drive magazine. http://www.drive.subaru.com/Summer07_whatmakes.htm
dbrunone
You can probably get higher mileage in S or S# than I, if you have a manual, because you can be in higher gears as you open the throttle more. This will save like 15% fuel because of fewer induction losses. Of course, nobody actually does this....
