Yep. Bothers me that there is no bumpstop provision, though.

In regards to Post #30 (not gonna quote it because it's huge and I'm not a noob anymore hahaha)...

Would all/most of this information also hold true for a 3rd Gen. Outback vs. a 3rd Gen. LGT? I'm considering coilovers on my OB at some point (probably KW's), and I want to know if most of this info. lines up so I can swap them and do a good job.

Although the coilovers will probably come during/after a 6MT swap I also want to do, so some of these parts will likely get changed out regardless hahaha.

Well I have everything I need to do this, just need to find 15 and 18

Nobody seems to have them.

Anybody know where to maybe get these?

I keep finding auto cars but no 5 speed cars to get these off of

Try http://car-part.com/ or Ebay.

I found mine on ebay.

Again, just to verify. This replaces the rear lower control arms, correct?

It looks like everyone doing this has replaced the struts / springs and changed the wheels and tires before removing the spacers or doing it all at the same time.

I was wondering if I could do the opposite and remove the spacers and keep the Outback struts / springs and wheels? :hide:

This would be temporary until I had to funds to do those items also.

Bought a used Oem lgt struts for 150 and swapped.

Cut 1/3 of the rear bump stop.

Got it aligned today.

Just loved how the car handle, even with the used oem lgt struts the handling is way better than the obxt shitty struts.

Next step is a 20mm Whiteline rear sway bar, Avo solid 90mm end links and Avo reinforcement rear sway bar brace.

Here are some pics for someone that wanna see how i looks before and after.

wow! great write up!!! I just have a few questions cause i am looking to lower my 05 obxt 5spd

1. Im looking to go the coilover route. Buying a set of Legacy coilovers, can I get away with installing them and not changing the shifter and steering brackets?

2. Same thing with the tranny cross-member, is it absolutely necessary to install the front and rear LGT tranny cross-members if i lower the car on coilovers? What are the consequences if i dont install them? Will it be extremely extremely super low to the ground with good chance of bottoming out on it or will i still plenty clearance still?

3. I am not looking to track the car or anything like that so would you say it would be ok to remove all necessary spacers in the rear, change the front control arm bracket and bolts to LGT, remove the rear trailing arm brackets and replace with LGT and be good enough from there? I just want to make sure my rear wheels are centered in the wheel well because i heard that can be an issue when going low on these cars.

Yes i know coilovers are not the the comfiest but im used to them. Used to daily driving a completely tracked out crx on coilovers with a 6 pointroll cage for almost 10 years so not really worried about comfort. The obxt just my cruisemobile, nothing crazy, just looking to slam it on some nice rims and still be functional. Any input is always appreciated!

Coilovers raise and lower the suspension NOT the body on the suspension.

Basically the outback has a body lift much like you would see some people do on a jeep.

So the answer to all your questions is no. You can install coilovers and not have to do any of the mentioned mods.

I have an Outback XT currently on BC/BR coils. Did nothing else but get an alignment.

I am going to do the legacy GT suspension geometry swap though to get rid of the spacers and have more travel to the rear control arms.

Oh and I would do the full geometry swap or do not do it at all.

Your driveline will be out of whack if you do part of it but not all.

Thats what I am worried about because it will be daily drivin. Not looking to replace tires every month either. Still need it to be functional but at the same time not riding on my bump stops either. I'm just worried about the shifter and cross-member portion of it and if its absolutely neccessary

So i take it then as I can get legacy spec coilovers and be fine with an alignment?
