ashwinearl
So I traded some wheels for some good condition Prodrives except they had some ratty paint. So I figure, what the heck, let me try stripping them like the you tube videos show then resand, prime, and plastidip and back in business. So the story goes... When I got into the stripping process, turns out there are like 5-6 different layers under there. The original black, some baby blue, black primer, under that, some nice bronze metalic, another primer under that then original metal. That baby blue stuff is like armor. I am using this Klean-Strip from Home Depot which isn't very good. I'm in the process of looking for sandblasters in the area! And as a stop-gap might try the Citristrip, which some say is better and safer, and 3M paint removal wheel. The sensible thing would have been to just walk away and take some time to find some basic wheels with less baggage. The funny thing, is that I am oddly attached to these wheels and determined to bring them back from rattle can damnation. Well, I own a 2005 LGT (Wagon) which we all know takes a certain determined mindset to continue loving, so it makes sense.
LGTGUY89
Why didnt you just plasti dip over it?
Dispatch20
A bunch of local places do nice powdercoating. They would sandblast all the paint off prior to that. What pro drives are those?
ashwinearl
These are O.Z. 7Jx17H2 ET 52 I found blasting/powder coating ranging from $65/wheel(guy in Chittenango) to $200/wheel in the Utica to Syracuse area. I am going to go with a guy in Camden that said 75-80/wheel. It sort of negates the whole trade I did with the extra cost of this and tire unmounts/mount. But I feel some compulsion to bring these wheels back to life and save them from the 7 layers of rattle can imprisonment they've been subject to. Sort of like a good deed for some rally heritage wheels.... In hindsight, I initially might have tried to just sand low spots by hand to smooth out the existing finish and then plastidip over it. Unknowingly adding two to three more layers on top of the other 6 or 7 and bad karama.
Dujo
I'm running those wheels on my wagon. They look great on there. It'll be worth it. It's the Prodrive P1 made by O.Z. for Prodrive. Enjoy!

MrTris
Looks like a Hyper Black or something. Great finish. I'll admit, my eyes haven't been checked in awhile, but, I'm pretty sure that isn't black.
ashwinearl
He didn't have a lot of colors to choose from. They call this color Raven. With a 10% gloss. I had wanted more anthracite color, but didn't feel like looking for different guy. I didn't want pure black, so this is a nice compromise. I want to get some white OZ decals and some black caps with white decals. I think that would really pop. He posted before after pics on his web page: https://www.facebook.com/D.N.CPowderCoating This was one on his gallery that I chose the color from: https://www.facebook.com/D.N.CPowderCoating/photos/pb.231427820322346.-2207520000.1427972456./231671936964601/?type=3&theater Raven Black 10%
BigTDogg MA
I'll admit, my eyes haven't been checked in awhile, but, I'm pretty sure that isn't black. It's a misleading name, Rays Gram Lights used it, and 5Zigen FN01RCs were available in it as well. More of a gloss gunmetal. http://www.auto-plus.com/prestige/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/57S-PRO.jpg http://www.z33driver.com/images/wheels/5zigenFN01RC/5zigenFN01RC_face3.jpg
MrTris
Am I crazy? That's not black. I've looked at it on three different screens -- mobile, laptop, and work desktop. Looks high-gloss silver to me. Either way, it's pretty badass.
