Nooooo!!! Legacy bolt pattern changed?

The WRX and STi bolt patterns have changed to 5X114.3, which means that all of those Subaru-specific wheels that could cross between all the other cars, don't fit any longer. Has the Legacy also changed, does anyone know? I was planning to put my Prodrive P1s on the Leggy, and would really hate to have to give those wheels up. Kevin

What gives me hope is that Subaru is hewing to the 17x7 wheel size. What gives me pause is that Subaru will almost certainly want to use the same bolt pattern across the entire line. On the other hand, people are using basic Subaru wheels on their Forester XTs, which will clearly have a different bolt pattern than the other Imprezas. I'm REALLY confused. Kevin

I just don't know and we won't be able to tell until people stat test fitting or looking in their manuals. *shrug* Definitely few and far between on finding them. Can find a few from makers like Volk and others, but they are looking hard to come by in the same offset and 5x114.3 pattern. Nothing on the STi site thus far either.

If that's true, then go to Acura-CL.com, Acura-TL.com, Acuraworld.com, V6p.net, and some of the Mazda forums to check out available rims. The TL/CL/V6 Accord all are 5 x 114.3 with around a stock +55 offset, which should be the same or similar to the WRX/STi/Legacy. Many Acura owners settle on a 47-50 offset for aftermarket rims. The new Mazdas also have the same bolt pattern and a similar offset. Different sized center, but Subies tend to be the smallest, so all should fit with hub rings. With Suby moving to 114.3, the biggest beneficiaries are going to be the Honda and Mazda owners.

Why would Subaru do this? (What do they gain from going from 5 x 110 to 5 x 114? Additional strength? More horsepower? Easier to mount altezzas? :) Make them more compatible with other cars? (Doesn't sound like it) ) I don't understand the purpose of the change.

5x114.3 is almost every 5 lug Japanese car though 5 Lug Nissans are 5x114.3 (350Z, Maxima and G35, along with the older Z32s and Skylines) 5 Lug Toyotas are too (Solara, Camry, Avalon, Supra) 5 Lug Acuras 5 Lug Mazdas (Mazda 6 uses a very high offset too) So, I see this as a blessing. The old 5x100 normally was a German bolt pattern (Audis, VWs) but they used mid offsets (30-40) Subarus were very awkward in that they had high offsets and 5x100 bolt patterns. No other manufacturer had that. Now rims that fit on many other japanese cars will finally work on a Subaru. Can anyone verify the offset on the 05s? here are some ideas: http://www.wheelchoice.com/EMOTION.htm 17x7 5x114.3 ET47 http://www.wheelchoice.com/REGA%2016.htm 16X7.0(+35) 16X8.0(+35) 5X114.3 http://www.wheelchoice.com/TE37.htm 16X7.0 (+33) 16X8.0 (+30) 5X114.3 http://www.wheelchoice.com/GTP%20BLUE.htm 16X7.0 (+32) 16X8.0 (+38) 5X114.3 http://www.wheelchoice.com/R32.htm 16X8.0 (+30) 5X114.3 Lots of choices. 5x114.3 (aka 5x4.5") is an awesome bolt pattern to have when it comes to JDM rims

+48 to +55 in most cases, +53 is stock on nearly all wheels It could be a blessing, but we'll have to wait for Prodrive and the other custom wheels specifically for Subaru's to retool to make twice as many options (being both offsets.) Will be interesting on an official word on this. Someone, go to your local dealership and make a comparison of the new GT and any '04 model. Measure between lug nuts. Should be around 5/8 of an inch difference.

if its exactly 4.5" between every other bolt, its 114.3 I have a feeling if they changed the bolt pattern, the offset may have come down to between 40 and 50. at least I hope so. I hate high offsets... you cant get much dish on a high offset rim. and if I want 4 5x114.3 BBS LMs in 18x8 (which I do) its $806/rim yikes.

Offset is regardless of bolt pattern as I gather. Low offsets, rub on fenders, higher offsets, rub on struts, springs and other internal components. (I think that's the right direction, or am I backwards?)

well, all depends on the hub they HAVE to change out the central hub if they change out the bolt pattern. yes, Low offsets mean its farther from the strut normally... Offsets are totally dependant on suspension geometry, the hubs, and wheel width I have 15x7 ET20 wheels on my E30 and I could go out an extra 5-10mm with a spacer in the front (bringing it to ET15 or ET10) and an extra 5 in the rear and not hit fender. My stock rims are 14x6.5 ET35 and they dont come close to the struts. Offsets dont mean a thing without wheel widths though.

y'know what, this is the straw the broke the camels back for me, so to speak. I have finally convinced myself to not go out and buy the GT (at least right now).. Fiirst there was the initial power ratings 250/250, then news of no HIDs, no McIntosh, no dual auto-climate controls (in the GT), lack of immobilizer in the sedan, and now the completely revised bolt pattern... I think I'm just gonna reflash my WRX ECU, do a couple of suspension mods and enjoy it for another year or so before reassessing things.. hopefully by then there will be substantial rumours of a STI Legacy or perhaps some welcome additions to the new model year legacys.. Don't get me wrong, I still think the GT is a fantastic bargain for the price, it's just now not enough of a package to tear me away from the rex. BTW. I can't abide leather seats, otherwise I would have gone for the limited edition.

I'm kind of psyched about the switch. If I am able to swing a GT, I'll be able to keep these 18" wheels that are currently on Acura TL. I think they'll look sweet on a black sedan.

P2X, go and drive one before you talk completely. And for power, the FXT is no 210/235, that's for sure. Does that mean the new GT is exactly that? It runs a bit more boost, just less than the STi.

Bolt pattern has NOT changed per SOA: Thank you for visiting the Subaru Web site and for your interest in Subaru products! We appreciate you taking the time to contact us. The bolt pattern for the 2005 Legacy and Outback models is five stud with 100 mm bolt circle. I hope this information is helpful to you, but should you have further questions, please let me know and I'll do my best to assist you further. Best Wishes, Natalie Cox Subaru of America, Inc.
