Is there at least one LGT owner who miss their WRX?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have been combing this forum and it seems that there are many former WRX owners who have moved up to the LGT. Many are happy campers.

Is there at least one LGT owner who miss their WRX? Your comments would help me tremendously if I should make the leap.

When I moved into the WRX from a Maxima SE, I loved (and still do) the more connected to the road feeling of the WRX compared to the Maxima. I am a little afraid that I may be moving too far backwards in that department since the Maxima and the LGT are similar in size.

Cheers.

I loved my WRX, now after having my LGT for about 7 mos the only thing I can say I liked better about the WRX was a slightly faster steering ratio. Here are a couple of experiences I have had that make me feel that I have not “lost” something by trading my WRX for a LGT. The first time I ran a WRX was about 2 days after I got my LGT. I only had about 125 mi on my car. It was about 11:00 pm, I stopped at a light and a blue WRX pulled up next to me, it had an aftermarket “muffler” on it and was quite loud. We took off normally, at about 15mph the guy in the WRX got on it. We ran up to about 80mph, at that speed my front bumper was about even with the back of his front door. We continued up to about 100 mph and he hadn’t gained anything on me. I know if we ran from a dead stop I would have got my butt kicked (my car is an automatic so it takes a second or so before it gets moving). I was impressed to have stayed with him that well. At the next light the WRX driver grinned at me and gave me the “thumbs up”. I have about 8,000 mi on my car now and it runs a lot stronger than it did then. I’m sure if we could run again now under the same conditions I would stay even or maybe pull slightly ahead at 100 mph. I have “engaged” several WRX’s on my favorite “exit ramp” and on some tight “on ramps” and have found that they do not have the grip to stay with a LGT. One driver actually lost it and ended up in the grass median along side the exit ramp. I checked my mirror and saw The WRX pulling back onto the exit ramp so I guess no harm was done except to the other drivers pride. I know it’s a big decision whether to switch from your WRX to a LGT, if you do I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. The dealership I purchased my car from will let WRX owners have a LGT for a day to see if they would be happy with it, maybe a dealer near you would do the same. Best wishes and good luck on your decision.

I miss the WRX for being able to take it offroad....it just seemed more willing to take a beating.

That's a good point. I have thought about that too. I don't know that I'll be as eager to take the LGT out to rally stages as I was with the RS. The RS seemed to enjoy the bumpy terrain more and I wasn't at all worried about tweaking a rim. That aside, I miss nothing about my RS.

On the flip side though, it was about 3 weeks before I got over the buyer's remorse. I had thought for a long time that I had made a huge mistake. The car didn't feel as responsive in the turns (maybe the quicker steering previously mentioned?) and I never felt confident with the handling of the car. After that 3 week threshold however, I came into harmony with the car and have since found that it will do anything I ask and more compared to the old RS.

I only imagine this will get better as I get to change things like tires and such. No regrets. At all.

I miss the handling of mine- and little bit of the looks:

But I miss my GTP a lot more- that was a really nice car. Pardon the pix- all I had was a really crappy digicam back then.

Yeah I miss mine sometimes, I miss the smaller size when driving in the city or parking in the city. And I miss the look, I loved my bug eye WRX, and I put a lot of money into it, it handled so well. But I love my LGT now too, and I am very very happy with it. Here is my old WRX.

I miss numerous things about the wrx. The straightforward hvac system, better visibility, more maneuverable, better handling, better in the snow, less affected by water/hydroplaning. The power delivery on the legacy is nice, its quieter, its classier looking probably. Mileage is surprisingly good. If they do end up putting the 2.5 in the wrx it'd be a harder choice, though the look seems to get worse and worse (I liked my bugeye personally)

I don't know yet, I just made (or am in the process of) making the jump. Take delivery on saturday.

Just based on the test drive alone, then being able to take the same route back to back with my wrx I can tell I am not going to regret this one bit.

The wrx was stage two, ap, 4 pots, strut bars, rear sway.

But the accelleration in the legacy is soo much more linear. That and I doubt I will

get every honda owner with a fart can trying to "take me" on the road.

Then there is the whole ride, build quality, comfort level etc. Leg is hand over foot dominant in every way. Granted, the WRX is a great car, I guess it depends on what your looking to get out of it. WRX is more of a raw sports car where the leg is a touring car.

And since everyone else is going it, here's my old wrx

yeah, i miss mine too. She's only a week gone, and letting go was really hard. I spent a lot of time/money/love on that thing, and was SO pleased and proud of her.

But the LGT is such a step up, I'd never trade down.

maybe i'd do both though. :) :) :)

Here's a pic of good 'ol Betty. I miss you honey! :(

Yes.

Things I Miss:

1. Sound of HKS Carbon TI (was not same car when stock went back on @ Trade-In)

2. Those cloth seats that hugged you like a long lost friend who had too much to drink.

3. WRB color

4. Rowwing thru the gears

5. Easy to use A/C

6. chuckability (the ability to be thrown into corners)

Don't Miss:

1. 1st/2nd gear crawl in stop-n-go traffic (car did not like to go slow)

2. Cheap @$$ paint job (comes standard on Legacy too)

3. RE92s (Legacy's got those too)

4. Check Engine Light

5. Everybody & their Mom revving up on you @ every light.

6. Clutch Studder, Judder, & Shudder

WRX was fun, but it was time to move on to something more refined, and dare I say grown up(2 kids, soccor dad). LGT can still get up and go but doesn't scream "look at me!"

i came from a Sentra SER spec V, and while thier are a lot of things about that car that i dont miss - As a whole i still miss that car a lot.

I wish i could have both it, and the LGT.

i came from a specV also....only thing i miss is all the mods i had on my spec.....rims/tires, coilovers, front and rear sways, lower tie bar, full exhaust(it was too loud though)... header, intake, pulley, different seats, short shifter, retuned, nicer sound system and clutchmasters clutch and lighter flywheel....but my legacy will soon start to gather parts like my old ride did

I definitely miss my WRX, WRB Sport Wagon, first subaru I owned, first turbo & AWD. I'm a big rally fan, I'll miss driving down snow covered gravel roads and sliding around corners, compact and good handling, and the sound of my 3in Invidia exhaust. Of course I won't miss the minor problems I had with it, but thats what kind of pushed me to upgrade to the Legacy GT. I also needed a little extra room and like the fact the engine was similar to the STI. The Legacy is sleek more refined inside and out, smoother power, it has its own issues too, but what car doesn't. I very glad I moved to the Legacy and I'd have both cars if I could, the GT is my first choice tho. I would have liked to see Subaru put the Legacy's 2.5L engine in the WRX, the Legacy's 2.5L should have came with at least 275-280 Hp (like JDM) and less weight etc, we have the WRX STI, so Subaru wheres our Legacy STI? and whats the deal with these uppipe cats we don't need! I'm all for clean air, but if it doesn't need it why put it in there! Why do we get short changed on all the sic rides like Skylines, Silvias, AE86s, etc. I think I'm done venting. :) I'd just like to see Subaru step to the plate and give us what we want.

I miss the no-nonsense performance of my STi. It looked aggressive, drove aggressive, and there was seldom a parking lot I drove into where every eye wasn't on me.

On the other hand, I'm nearly invisible to the ricers who used to rev on me every other stoplight, and I seem to be very much under the radar when it comes to law enforcement, too.
