All Windows but DS Door stuck down, rain coming!!!

Help!

I just pulled the seats and trailered my 1997 SUS to the car wash nearby and shampooed and detailed it to remove 160K miles worth crap left over from the prior owner and my 25k contribution. (3 AM Shampooing is the only way to go!) Detailed might be a bit generous since none of the glass was touched, but I had good reason! I can't get any of the windows up except the driver's side door!!!

When I try the switches on any of the doors for any window other than the Driver's window, nothing happens! Up or down, doesn't matter! :spin: I've got rain coming in later today and need to resolve this ASAP or I'm gonna have to go clean it again, not exactly an awe-inspiring proposition! I can't for the life of me figure out what could have happened, they went down fine when I started!

Any chance the driver's side switch is somehow to blame? Little cleaning agent (damn you Armor All!) inside the switch shorting out the system or something? Not sure what to think since none of the switches work, maybe I'm just grasping at straws, HELP!

Free e-cookies for whoever has some advice. http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x414/fallarnon/Random/emoticon_cookie.gif

Cheers,

Jon

did you try the switches at each door? and make sure the window switch lock is not on when using those other switches

Sounds like the child protection lock switch to me. Try pressing it a few times. Maybe armorall did short circuit that switch. I'd check the fuses too.

Good luck.

E-cookies for both of you http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x414/fallarnon/Random/emoticon_cookie.gifhttp://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x414/fallarnon/Random/emoticon_cookie.gif and a dunce cap for me. :spin:

God only knows what possessed Subaru to have that switch disable the driver's control of the windows as well. That's what 3-AM detailing will do to your mental faculties though.

Have some bonus cookies. http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x414/fallarnon/Random/emoticon_cookie.gifhttp://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x414/fallarnon/Random/emoticon_cookie.gifhttp://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x414/fallarnon/Random/emoticon_cookie.gifhttp://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x414/fallarnon/Random/emoticon_cookie.gif

I wish I could change the topic title: "Idiot Owner Forgets Child Locks - Sleep Deprivation To Blame"

Thanks,

  • I Donated

The Legacy is the only car I have had this problem in.

A few years back I had the front windows down after work. It started to rain and I wasn't able to roll them back up...either from the drivers door or at each door.

I started ripping apart door panels to figure it out...

20 minutes later, I felt like a complete idiot.

Yeah I didn't quite get to that point, mostly cause I knew I wasn't dealing with rain until this evening, but it really made me angry that I couldn't finish detailing my car.:spin:

I felt like a complete idiot when the guys here told me what to try... but I still maintain it to be a design flaw. I don't think our 2000 Volvo V70 has this issue, pretty sure Driver maintains control, and I know for a fact my 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix didn't do it. Such is life though, I'm going to sit down with my dad one day and see if I can't figure out a way to keep the driver in control, I'll post a tutorial here if we figure something out.

my brother called me a few weeks ago freaking out about this same problem and I was like "uh turn off the window lock". another time he called me and asked what he should do about his change falling through the back of the ashtray on his 06 impreza and I was like "use the change holder instead?" and he was like "this car has a change holder?!" after he had owned the car for over a year

I swear it was sleep deprivation. I got in the car this morning and someone had moved it for our mulch delivery and enabled the same lock. No freak out this time, just shut it off! That's funny about the change issue though, I guess the holders on the Imprezas are a bit more discreet? I swear to god Subaru expected us all to pretty much live on toll roads, I think I have slots in my car for like eight dollars in quarters!

But oh man, my commute was ever so much better this morning in a nice clean car. I've got to figure out when but I think I'm going to gut the interior completely sometime this summer and pressure wash all of the panels and the carpet, get everything squeaky clean. Maybe after I find some new seats to put in...

i never had the parking light problem. or the window switch, but i did have a problem with the flashers coming on after a battery reconnect. took me a bit, just found was the clicking relay under the dash and saw it was the sercuity box. a quick lock and unlock of the doors and all was well.

who didn't find the cup holders for a while?
