Pike's Peak w/ Dom96s and Timbuktu (17 large-ish pics)

We had a blast heading up Pike's today. Couldn't have asked for a better climate.

So...sharing time. The pics -

Meeting at the Cave of Winds off of Highway 24 outside of Co. Springs.

Timbuktu, Dom96 w/ his wife and twins.

I thought we were in trouble when this Co. Springs officer showed up. She looked back at me after getting out of her car and motioned toward us while talking to the other officer.

...and then spent much time eating slow-moving dust on the 19-mile ascent up the Peak. Surprisingly, people were very amenable to pulling over and letting us pass.

Our first stop for a photo-op. One of the twins decided to spit-up her last meal.

About 9 miles up, the fun ends (begins?) as the paved section ends and the road turns to dirt. On the way down, I **attempted** to have some fun, but instead managed only to throw up some dirt and waggle the LGT's rear-end around.

19 miles and 45 minutes later, we're at the summit.

Another photo-op on the way back down.

One of the many dangerous switchbacks. Being on the outside of these turns is a rather harrowing experience. Especially heading downhill

Alright, that's all the decent pics that I took. I'll rifle through the rest of 'em and if any of 'em seem worthy, I'll post 'em. Might post a video or two, but they're fairly low-quality (camera phone) and weren't taken while doing anything exciting.

beautiful, especially teh sky!

Yeah, its a beautiful area. I wish I hadn't waited so long to head up there, but as Dom96 pointed out, the unpaved area probably wouldn't have been kind to a RWD sports car.

Next time, man, you gotta go.

Oh how very, very cool! :)

Thanks for sharing those pix. I don't frequent this section of the Forums, but wow, I was lucky!

Wow! I wish we could've made it-looks like a beautiful trip! Except it wouldn't have been as cool with two red LGT's. It looks great with the red, white and blue.

So are you guys going to compete in the Pike's Peak hill climb, now that you're pros? :)

Do you guys happen to have high-resolution shots? The views from the locations you guys have chosen like I mentioned above are really great :). I also want a new background.

Also, I have a question. Can anyone just go on Pikes Peak? By that I mean the public. I'm sure it's limited to 4WD/AWD maybe?

I don't check into the forums often enough. I would have gone if I had caught the thread earlier. Though I would have taken my rather "uncool" 2.5i 4EAT. The high altitude would have been a relief from the high temperatures over the weekend.

Uncool, hell. If my wife hadn't been encumbered with familial issues, she probably would've taken her 2.5i 5MT wagon. However, I wonder how much of a problem 14,000 ft of altitude would be w/ a normally aspirated engine.

2 of these pics are easily more than 2megs each. Putfile has a 2mb limit per file, and no support for ZIPs.

I've used Putfile in the past, but its support with Safari is sketchy and...well, they don't take porn files, dammit.

Anyway, the ZIP is back up, new and improved. Its 10+ megs instead of 4 megs now. 5 pics instead of 2.

Get it here.
