I got bored...

Recommended Posts

So I have a aftermarket radio with an aux cord that comes out the back side of it. I have tried to find a "good" place for this cord and it always looks ghetto or gets in the way when not in use. Also I only use my iPod in my car so I need to charge it when it dies.

So I needed to find a fix to these problems. Where will you not see cords when not in use? How about the center console?

Wha La!

I added a cigarette lighter and a hole with a rubber garment for the aux cord to go into. If anyone wants to know how to do this I will do a quick right up and if you have any question then I will answer them.

I am not responsible for you screwing anything up, just to save my butt haha

1. Remove your center console and take the bucket out. You will see like 10 screws on the underside of your center console, take them out and the bucket will come out.

2. Using a drill bit or dremel (my weapon of choice) cut each hole. The cigarette lighter hole is 7/8" I believe. And the other hole was 1/4".

These are the garments I used from Home Depot for $3.87.

3. Put the cigarette lighter socket in and the garment/cord. You will see that there is a metal ash tray thing that you have to cut a little to make it work.

4. Now for the wiring...My radio had a hot wire that was being unused for illumination of something. I used that for my hot wire then tapped into the other cigarette lighter ground wire. If you dont plan on using both sockets at the same time you could tap into the original cigarette lighter, but otherwise I would run a new wire, or find something to tap into. Im not responsible for you tapping into the wrong wire!

5. Put it all back together and enjoy!
