BAC5.2 Posted August 25, 2011 Share Posted August 25, 2011 For the past few months, I've been working with TurboXS on developing what I consider to be the "right" exhaust. Our first prototype showed up, and we did several test-fits. The first with my current TurboXS downpipe, then with my stock downpipe, and then with the new TurboXS downpipe. Each fitment was spot on. Everything nicely tucked up under the car, no low spots, no touching heat shields, no rubbing axles. The pipe I have now, is a plain pipe. No flex section or resonator. For full-scale production, this is subject to change. The pipe, as are all TurboXS exhaust pieces, is made from real T304 steel tubing that's CNC mandrel bent and hand welded. The flanges are MASSIVE, and machined from 304 as well. No thin gauge, crappy "stainless" here. The pipes are hand polished to a mirror finish. After use, the pipes go from their bright polished finish to a deep, shiny gold. It looks awesome. The midpipe is 3" diameter, with a 3" flat flange. The y-pipe junction is hand formed, with 2.5" y-pipes. The mid/y-pipe bolts to stock mufflers, and is, finally, available independent of mufflers. Pricing details are TBD, but I expect it to be very reasonably priced. Mufflers are currently being designed, and should be out soon. The whole kit is designed for the LGT and OBXT, and is available as a full Turbo-back, just the mid-y, just the mufflers, or any combination of the three components! This is much more important for the wagon owners which don't want the exhaust to drone. Lastly any ETA when the exhaust will go into production? Would be awesome to have that as a choice from the manufacturer instead of having to ruin a nice pipe. And by the way that midpipe/Y looks awesome! I can't believe how tucked up it is. I have an SPTv2 and I swear the Y hangs down 1-1/2" to 2" lower than this. Excited to see price and "options" with this. I just re-read the "How much interest do people really have in a quiet high-flow exhaust?" thread and read the following from BAC5.2 "Production will have some neat features, including one that you can't get with any other exhaust right now." Not many people want a cut-out, and even the best electronic cutouts fail and leak. I can bring the idea up, but I wouldn't count on it. Joe - The midpipe/y-pipe are a combo. The factory piece is all one piece. This is two pieces to make shipping easier. Can't say the fit was perfect - the OEM DP/res and supplied res/Y bolts were too short for one thing - but it eventually went on fine. I too am interested in the 2.5" DP to 3" mid adapter as I just replaced my gasket with a bit of a kludge consisting of a 3" metal gasket plus foil tape. Lachute's solution, which is really good for only one install, was to supply a thin metal ring that went over the donut gasket. Like a squish washer it collapsed on install and couldn't be (or in my case shouldn't have been) reused. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You want the mufflers to be straight through and not baffled or there is no reason to get aftermarket mufflers. There are plenty of quiet straight through muffler designs (not LGT specific) Any plans to have a third muffler in the midpipe as an option?
