LegacyDan
Ill be in US next week so i'll pick myself up a set of rear pads while im over there. Im just looking for a set that would be an improvement over the stock pads and quiet and long lasting. Also do you grease up the back of your pads when you install them to prevent any squealing? The reason im changing mine is the current pads and ones previous squeal like crazy under light low speed braking and its so annoying! I tried applying copper grease to the back of them but that didnt help, i tried them just installed with the supplied anti squeal shims, but nothing has helped. The pads i have in now are cheap unbranded ones i recently put in to replace some performance ones i had in there that were also squealing to see if that solved the problem. Could it be a problem with the rotors or calipers? Either way ill try pickup up some pads next week to help in the troubleshooting process! aac0036
Hawk HPS pads are excellent upgrades. Just make sure you bed them in with the rotors properly so you have good contact. I don't quite know how effective this would be for only the rear pads, but I've done this procedure twice when replacing all 4 pads, and then only the fronts. By "do not drag" they mean minimizing the time you're stopped with the pads clamped to the disks, and dragging to a stop. Here is the procedure from Hawk themselves: After installing new brake pads, make 6 to 10 stops from approximately 30-35 mph applying moderate pressure.Make an additional 2 to 3 hard stops from approximately 40 to 45 mph.DO NOT DRAG BRAKES!Allow 15 minutes for brake system to cool down. After step 4 your new pads are ready for use
Th3Franz
I don't consider Hawk HPS performance pads. I run Porterfield R4-S in my rear calipers and they are quiet and have a higher coefficient of friction than Hawk HPS. With the R4-S, I don't bother swapping out my rear pads for track days. -Franz The end of a Legacy http://www.youtube.com/th3franz
aac0036
Ah yes, performance they are not. I was recommending a good set for a good price since the OP mentioned: Im just looking for a set that would be an improvement over the stock pads and quiet and long lasting. KNS Brakes
You could run Stoptech Pads, these pads have better bite than the Hawk HPS, but in turn they will produce a little bit more dust. -Nick
AZP Installs
I would suggest he HPS or the Stoptechs. We find the HPS to be a bit better bite and better heat resistance but both are an improvement over stock. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. AZP Installs
Hawk pads are known to eat rotors all day long, wouldn't use them. Because you read this on the internet? Which Hawk pads are you referring to? Were they bedded in properly? Hawk Blues if you don't heat them up will kill rotors, they are race pads. Hawk HPS we've been using and installing for our customers since 1999 and have installed 1000s of sets on customer cars. Their rotors have not worn out prematurely, usually 45-65k miles on their rotors. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. devobuzz
I havent had any issues with Hawk HPS eating rotors on the LGT. But I just got some Porterfields R4-S for my Shelby. I like them better but since it is a different car it isn't an apples to apples comparison. I may try the Poprterfields on my LGT too when the time comes. Drew888
The squeal is the pad itself 9 times out of 10. Get the leading edge of your pads on a belt sander and knock off the sharp leading edge. Bed your pads in again and you may be just fine. Ill be in US next week so i'll pick myself up a set of rear pads while im over there.
