Need info on spec-b 6 speeds

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this has been posted before.

Tapatalk search feature BLOWS & I'm not able to log in @ work.

I just want to know if the 6 speed in the spec-b series is basically the same strength as an STi trans?I know they came without the LSD & DCCD. I have the opportunity to snag one for a decent price & might swap it in to replace my PPGd 5 speed for better drivability.

Thanks spec-b guys !

SI drive does nothing with the tranny, AFAIK it changes boost/timing/etc.

The tranny is the same minus DCCD, this is why they are a bit cheaper than the STi 6mt. They can be swapped into the WRX, however I am not sure if any changes need to be made for the axles. I seen a thread on this a couple years ago when a few people here were using them as they were much cheaper at that time.

The SpecB transmission also has a larger, heavier flywheel than the STI's (which also means a different pressure plate as well). When my clutch went in the SpecB, I used all STI specific parts as replacements. You just need to make sure you've got the right size pressure plate and flywheel as they are different between STI and SpecB.
