They are comparably priced and build quality looks about the same. Haven't seen anything overly positive or negative in regards to fitment or performance. TS claims to be made in USA. IPR appears to be located in Florida as well. TS appears to have tabs for an engine cover, otherwise, they sure look the same.

Appreciate anyone's comments or feedback.

But OP asked about TS and IPR specifically.

understood

I believe the engine cover is more important than most think. Without the engine cover what is stopping the air from just blowing around your intercooler rather than through it? That's the whole reason there's a scoop in the hood right? You're doing yourself a disservice by not using the one thing that helps direct air through you're intercooler. If you're going to spend the scratch to buy a new one because you want an upgrade, why cheap out and buy one that's not going to perform as well as another b/c you can't put the air through it.

sorry for the rant, just my two pennies.

I'm sure it serves a purpose, but in 85-90% of the cases I've seen most are not using their engine covers. This is true of those using the AVO as well. I liked the AVO, and they are known for their quality and fit, but I have a budget. The TS and IPR's are getting good reviews and surprisingly the chinese IPR is currently more popular with most users here on a budget like myself. I went with the TS. Lifetime warranty, and made here. I know I will never use the warranty, but it's there. Came across some threads which mentioned fitment issues with IPR. I'll bet this was true of both brands - earlier models. The real reason for this purchase is piece of mind. I can't have the end tanks separating on my DD. I'm not going to do JB weld or straps. Seee Ya's tank clamp mounts looked pretty cool. I'm just looking for a modest reliable performance increase.

We have installed the TS with an engine cover. But we had to make some aluminum brackets.

I agree that the engine cover does help direct air through the TMIC, that is why we like to use them.

But I also agree that the TS is a Perrin "knock off" that fits and works just like a Perrin at a steep discount.

No matter what it should be trimmed. Otherwise the cover blocks the top and bottom row of fins. There is no provision for attaching the firewall side of the engine cover. IPR and TS and Perrin have no holes or brackets.

I posted pix of the brackets we made to hold the engine cover (and not let it shake, bounce, rattle , etc) in the Jcole build thread.

My Perrin has little tabs that you are supposed to drill holes in to secure the engine cover. Just used a pair of hardware to secure it. Did Perrin stop making it with the tabs?

Yes. Perrin stopped with the tabs. Hence no tabs on the Perrin copies.

We have pushed AVO and Perrin to 400whp mark. Not pushed TS that far, yet. But it appears to work just like a Perrin during tuning.

  • 4 months later...

Just found this thread. Sprank's install and modification of my TS TMIC went great. Work done about 8 months ago and no issues from my end.

I have no comparison but am perfectly happy with the TS product and liked the price a lot too.

How does air behave slamming into those flat rails across the top of the intercooler?

We looked back through the data base of tunes. We had to after another disappointing tune with a "knock off" TMIC. We suspect a huge pressure drop across the core of these "knock off" TMIC's. Also, we suspect heat soak due to the non-cast end tanks. I will install some temp sensors to further investigate that.

But, we are seeing a loss of top end power when using theses TMIC's. Especially on stock turbos.

As for air flow. It works the same with almost all coolers. Air is lazy and takes the path of least resistance. Through the core.
