Buzzman
I want to find an alternative to Brembo while still retaining the look and appeal of a big brake kit. Also, when I say cheap, I mean in relative terms. Any ideas?
mr.hicksta
I believe Wilwood and Racing Brake make 'cheaper' BBKs relative to the Brembos and StopTechs.
car_cursed
Used STi Brembos can be had for about $500 for the fronts, that's relatively cheap.
Buzzman
Yikes, they're still really expensive. Look's like I'll wait until after college and purchase a set of Brembos for such a small price difference.
Buzzman
That's not bad, I'll look into those. You're referring to the 04 year, right? Thanks.
Lardo420
yes, 04 sti was 5x100
mr.hicksta
Yeah the 04+ Brembos is what he's talking about. Find a used set is probably your best option if you're looking to keep costs relatively low.
Buzzman
Would these be viable? http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2330153 Sorry for the newb questions.

mr.hicksta
Look around more here though because IIRC, you'll have to get some brackets for the rears. There are quite a few people with the Brembos installled so you shouldn't have an issue finding the information.
Buzzman
Ok, definitely will do.
SCHM1AN
You can get Brembos off an Evo for $300-$400 on ebay. IIRC, these are the exact same as the Brembos on the STI (and they're red, not gold), but they need some slight modification to fit.
ragman
Here's the basic list of what you'll need for the STI brembo swap and approximate prices: Calipers Front and Rear (usually come with stock pads) $800 - 1000 Rotors Front and Rear (centric premium) $300 Rear caliper brackets $250 Rear brake pads $250 Stainless steel lines (optional) $
Berzerklo
One other option is to just put the money into your current brake setup... pads, ss lines and a STi Master Cylinder swap. You can paint them too if you are looking for the 'bling' factor. From what I have heard, the stock brakes perform just as well as brembos with a little tweaking! Also, when I say cheap, I mean in relative terms. Any ideas?Cheap and BBK don't tend to go hand in hand with one another. As much as I think BBKs are sexy behind a nice wheel, I'd do as others have said and go for performance. Rotors, pads, SS lines, MCB and even a MC/Booster swap if the afore mentioned changes don't get you the pedal feel you desire. My spec.B [#163] Project Thread with Pictures Get CryoTuned! ouch1011
For the STI Brembos (and many other BBKs) you'll need different wheels. They have to have a specific spoke design to clear the massive brake calipers. 04 STI wheels do nicely. But that is another $500-$800 you'll have to factor in to the cost.
