kaz98gt
Looking good! Any more info on her? Miles, recent work, how long you've had it, etc? And just throwing it out there, is it just me or is the hood misaligned in the last photo?
rshaw123
its the same way in the first photo too, maybe he had the hood popped off the first latch or something
Custom Trendz Inc.
and btw if ur hood doesnt latch down all the way, look at the support right infront of the radiator, it might be bent outward or inward. Thats the problem I had with my hood(it wouldnt latch down all the way) but i found out that it was just that bar(very easy to bend)
GuamSTI
Thanks guys the hood has some damage in the front and the RH headlamp is also pushed in a bit. I have been doing some work on it and got the headlamp and grille aligned. Now the problem is the hood latch does not aling with the hood because of the damage to the hood. Do I fix the hood? replace it with a used one without the scoop? or get an OEM looking CF hood? the car has 139,000 miles, Automatic, the most of the bottom mechanical parts/bolts/lines, etc. has some rust on it including the struts and calipers. Bosy has the normal Legacy rust spots. In fact I broke 1 slide pin on the LH front caliper and currently trying to find a less expensive option to getting it fixed. Aside from torque bind the car runs fine. I was going to sell this after I fixed the brakes but I think I am falling in love with this one. http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z290/jgrsevilla/98%20Legacy%2025%20GT/IMG_2870-1.jpg http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z290/jgrsevilla/98%20Legacy%2025%20GT/IMG_2871.jpg

GuamSTI
Now after all this work maybe somebody can give me an idea how to open the sunroof manually so I can clean off the drain hoses (it floods on the front passenger footwell). My sunroof does not slide back it pops up only. There is no click at all or the sound of a motor when I try to slide it back. I am thinking I should check a fuse or relay first. Any idea where this things are located? Thanks,
kaz98gt
You need to pop the headliner off to get to the drain hoses. Either one is clogged with debris or it shrank over the years and pulled away from the plug attachment. I hear it's a bitch to get the headliner off, but it's definitely doable. Good luck. subikid90
Its just a lot of screws lol. Take me about 30 mins now. Dang that looks like you did a good job on the repairs and paint. daleyswanson
Its just a lot of screws lol. Take me about 30 mins now. Its really not too bad. GuamSTI
I am now in MD I just heard from my wife on Guam that the LGT just started smoking on the right front part of the car. I am hoping it did not overheat or there goes a head gasket. I told her to not drive the car until I get back. Now just in case I need to replace or fix the motor what do you guys think is a better investment in terms of money and time? 1. Rebuild the original motor? 2. convert to a JDM Turbo motor? 3. convert to a WRX motor? 4. covert to an STI motor? 5. convert to an 07' and up NA motor? Thanks,
subikid90
JDM tubro motor , sti (besides 04) and anything 07 and up will be a wiring nightmare. I was if you want boost put a 02-03 wrx motor or 04 sti motor in. If you want something that just runs then rebuild the original motor. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
GuamSTI
My worry about rebuilding the original motor is reliability of the head gaskets. I do not really like a Turbo motor because I would not like to replace the transmission. The reason I bought the LGT is because I wanted an automatic car. kaz98gt
New headgaskets shouldn't be an issue; felpro makes a great set of gaskets that are higher quality than the OEM ones, and (even though subaru said that they beefed up replacement gaskets for their 2nd gen 2.5s) I'd go that route if anything. A lot of people have said great things about the felpro headgasket kits.
subikid90
I have fel-pro gaskets in my white subi and have had no problems for about 20k now. I have them sitting in my garage for my black car also. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
