JayMitch2.5i
I was looking into getting new headers and of course no one actualy makes headers for the NA legacy. So i looked into what would fit the Impreza RS. Borla has a set of headers that will fit, the only thing is the heat sheild wont so you need to heat wrap the headers. The cheapest i found them were at: http://www.sportcompactonly.com/Subaru/Impreza/Headers/Exhaust/Performance/part_c-59_pl-1329_p-84690_vt-1057_vy-2005.htm. Any one know if there would be any reason they couldnt be installed on the legacy?
Osei
when I had my BE (04) i bought Borla header. #17183. In my case (i didn't realize til after purchase that I had a PZEV engine) and had to sell them. while I had them i noticed that they have no bungs for o2 sensors, so that will be a problem. contact Borla directly and they should be able to give you an answer, otherwise they should fit. Jay, Since you are in CT, you probably have a PZEV engine also. Knowledgeable people such as Kostamojen, helped me sort out what I had and I sold them to a member of the forum. I haven't even looked hard at my current headers, the shape is correct but I haven't looked for the o2 sensors. The 04 had a total of 5 sensors !, single port exhaust and equal length headers,so even if they did fit,it would have been CEL city. Borla and others who sell their headers, do not make a distinction between PZEV engines and non Pzev,so it is up to you to check configuration etc,or you'll be stuck with an expensive paperweight. hope this helps. If i had to id take it to a machine shop and get it fitted for the o2 sensors.
CDN 2.5i
I'm planning on getting a set of the unequal length headers - the Borla's have a reputation for cracking but they are warranteed and/or can be repaired/welded quite easily. I plan to buy the ebay 'replica' units that a2rinc sells however they just sold their last set a week or so ago and there will be a 3 month wait til they get the new shipment. The replica headers are as well made as the Borlas and don't seem to be near as prone to cracking and the best part is that they can be had for about $199 I believe. Osei
If you bought your car new in CT, you have a PZEV. Will look at mine when I go out this morning and see if I can locate any O2 sensors. At least from the top, Not getting under this morning. CA,CT,MA,NH,NY,RI and VT all have pzev. O.

Osei
Ok. found 2 sensors in headers. 1 is definitely O2 ( generally O2 wires are black) the other has orange wires. In either case you have 2 sensor bungs in oem headers. Both can be seen from top of engine bay.One in front pass. side behind radiator, the other on pass. side lower down. Following header, you will see both. Regrets, no digital camera, so no pics available. Is it worth it to pay 300 plus mod changes to headers? That's for you to decide. Good motorin'. O. Kostamojen
If you have a PZEV 2005 motor, it will look like this: http://media.automotive.com/evox/stilllib/subaru/outback/2005/5es-4/50.jpg If you have a non-PZEV 2005 motor, it will look like this: http://media.automotive.com/evox/stilllib/subaru/impreza/2005/4sa-4/50.jpg The 2005 PZEV motor is a bit of an oddity. It has completely different heads and intake manifold and actually uses the 2001-2004 H6 headers (single OVAL port, not like the 2.2 single port heads). Honestly, if you have that motor, you are pretty much screwed in terms of mods... However, that doesnt mean you cant do everything DIY or have a muffler shop make new custom headers for you (which would probably cost less then buying new Borlas anyway due to the single ports). Hanger
so if we have the PZEV engine does it mean the Borla Header won't fit on ours? or does it mean it'd only need modification to make it fit? ○ ○ ○ Instagram: itshangertime :spin: ○ ○ ○
BrownBoy
PZEV is a single port engine, the Borlas are for the dual port non-PZEV engines. Your only option is to get some custom fabbed, or find a manufacturer that makes single port headers for the Subarus (which there might be a small chance of)

Your only option is to get some custom fabbed, or find a manufacturer that makes single port headers for the Subarus (which there might be a small chance of) If someone made headers for the 2001-2004 H6, then they would work. The PZEV 05 motor has those exact headers. However, the older single port 2.2 header design WILL NOT work. There is a huge difference in the exhaust port between those and the PZEV motor (with the PZEV motor being an oval hole while the old 2.2's had a circular hole). CDN 2.5i
I'm eager to buy headers for my '05 2.5i wagon. Other than the Borlas, there are the "eBay replicas". I've seen pretty good feedback on the a2rinc units - but just noticed that there is another seller out there as well - but a couple of people have commented that the fitment is not perfect. Does anyone here have experience with these? Here's a link for reference: http://cgi.ebay.ca/Subaru-97-04-Impr...QQcmdZViewItem The price is right. I was going to wait for a2rinc's v.2 which is supposed to be out soon, but I don't know if I can wait that long http://images.nasioc.com/forums/images/smilies/lol.gif
