Plan to use my other fender to patch my passenger side quarter pannel/dogleg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/af89/Johnathanblois/IMG_1247.jpg Good example of what winter driving does to your car in canada aha http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/af89/Johnathanblois/IMG_1263.jpg Bought some used uel headers for 140 including flange and sensor http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/af89/Johnathanblois/IMG_1265.jpg Sanded the chrome and painted the grille flat black http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/af89/Johnathanblois/IMG_1262.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/af89/Johnathanblois/IMG_12691.jpg Flat black grille. http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/af89/Johnathanblois/IMG_1251.jpg I took the carpet out to clean/dye it black it was so horrendous I just threw it out. Grinding down the floors welding over holes 3 coats of tremclad then gritty bedliner eventually. http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/af89/Johnathanblois/IMG_1244.jpg Rerouted wire up into the dash and behind a metal pannel. 987687
WOW! That's a lot of rust, those cars fetch a premium in canada, it seems. Looks like you're making quick progress on it though. I have a car just like it, black 2nd gen LGTs are the best Here's my baby, this is what you have to look forward to when yours is finished. Lovely little cars. http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z314/987687/98%20Legacy%20GT/IMG_3911.jpg
SpaceMayne
Sad thing is found 6' holes on both rear wheel wells rotted completly to, just more patches added to the list. Funny cause I plan to paint mine in the future white or grey. Nice looking car, do you have the 2.5 still? Stock suspension?
987687
Stock everything, including automatic. But I have a 2.2 in it. I got it for $400 because the engine was bad. 246k miles on the car now and going strong!
SpaceMayne
Oh sweet I hope to do the exact same swap in the following months. Did you swap it yourself?
987687
Oh sweet I hope to do the exact same swap in the following months. Did you swap it yourself? Yep, I swapped it all myself. I actually swapped it three times... It's a long story wrought with bad engines bought from sketchy people, but it's not that hard of a job. SpaceMayne
wow that's really unfortunate! Let's hope I do not have a similar story. I plan to pay someone to do my swap for the sole fact I do not have much faith in my skills to do the swap. Have any plans for boost?
987687
On and off, I'm not a huge fan of turbos. So If I do boost it would be supercharger. Although a swap that I've seriously considered is the 3.3 out of the SVX. I have a whole page of notes on what parts, and what things here and there need to be done for the swap, and I always have one engine and wiring harness that I could potentially buy if I come across some money. Just a note about boosting though. Unless you do all the work yourself (and even if you do), you're not going to win over the price of jus buying an 02 wrx. And especially if you figure in the time it would take, it would be easier to go get a second job for 3 months to save up for a WRX... There's a lot of work involved in turbo swaps to do it right. And if you're not going to do it right, why waste time and money?
SpaceMayne
I assume the wiring would be a pain on the 3.3 swap? I want built not bought, I dont have to worry about spending money all that much as this is going to happen over a span of time not soon. I was speaking hypothetically, my car is quite far away from boosting aha. I feel its more rewarding and meaningful to have a car that you actually put some effort in. 987687
Yea, the wiring would be sucky probably. But I don't mind wiring, I wire boats with advanced canbus monitoring systems for engines, alarm systems, fridges, everything you can imagine. So a little car doesn't bother me too much. Worst part is pulling apart the dash.

SpaceMayne
I ended up getting a 1999 wagon gt about 400000km 1997 wagon gt 200000km both for 350. 99 needs a new coil pack and plugs, 97 needs a new filler neck. Both cars run although the 99 has fuel problems/coil pack. Came with a CD and usb dec, 6 disc cd changer and a set of rims. http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/af89/Johnathanblois/IMG_1359.jpg http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/af89/Johnathanblois/IMG_1361.jpg Car near the gate is the 99 http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/af89/Johnathanblois/IMG_1360.jpg Older seats from the 97, swapping front seats and back seats aswell door cards. joelwatts
Nice. Body work is lots of great practice in patience. I'm a native of South Carolina. I am a dying breed.
987687
Just make sure you do body work correctly the first time around. You don't want a second time... My 89 GL was on it's death bed. Needed new rear quarters, front fenders, floor pans, rockers, and structural rust welded up. It wasn't worth fixing that car. HAH. But since I'm never going to let it die I fixed it. The key thing is to get all the old rust removed. If any is left, it's like cancer, it'll keep spreading. So it's important to weld it up nice and solid with no holes. Then coat it nicely and completely with POR15, or magnet paints chassis saver. The latter is cheaper, and just as good. Remember, bondo is for fairing. Meaning, making it look perfect and smooth, to cover up bad welds, get rid of slight dents or wrinkles, make your body work look brand new. Bondo is not for filling holes, huge craters, etc. I completely fixed the GL without any bondo at all. I don't care what it looks like, it's a rally car/winter beater. It's a lot of work, but I've done bad body work. And when I have to do it again, it pisses me off more than the first time. Do it right the first time and it'll be nice and shiny like my 98LGT
SpaceMayne
Thanks for the advice, now that I own the wagons I plan to sell the sedan or just junk it and keep all the parts I need. Luckly the only rust on the 97 and 99 is inside the rear well up where the strut meets the body. Swapped all seats today, wasnt thinking and didnt change the seat belts. Power steering/alt belt went the other day, put a new alt and belt on from the sedan. The 99 came with a brand new fuel filter and lines so I swapped that also. Swapped my headlights and grille along with all new bulbs. Switched Bumpers, fenders, door cards, cd dec and artifcial wood trim. Will post pics tomorrow
987687
Nice! Make sure you watch the temp gauge on the 99. If the head gaskets go, you really don't want to cook that engine block. The 99 actually has a phase2 engine block with the phase1 and heads. That means it has the thrust bearing moved to #5 and bigger rod bearings. It's a much stronger more reliable block, don't ruin it. Pics hopefully up tomorrow. Do sedan skirts fit the wagons?
monkeyposeur
Thanks! The SS is super fun. I think a cam seal may be leaking though. Still waiting to hear back from eekay, but we're not in a rush. At first glance he thinks it looks to be about the same as his tmic.
