My AVIC-N2 Install - with pics

I am beginning to install a Pioneer AVIC-N2 navigation computer/monitor in my LGT. As I make progress, I will continue to post pictures and make notes on this thread. (With the end of my school semester coming up and long hours at work, it will probably be about 2 weeks before the project is completed.)

I decided to mount the display monitor in the storage cubby location using the 1-DIN fascia from SOJ. I also decided on mounting the computer in the glovebox instead of on the floor under the passenger seat. There is already a shelf in the glovebox, and this location would allow me to easily connect auxiliary devices (MP3 player, camcorder, etc.).

Pioneer listed incorrect dimensions on their website :icon_frow and once I received the AVIC-N2, I immediately knew that the computer wouldn't fit in the glovebox. To fix this problem, I pulled the plastic cubby out of the glovebox and cut out a portion of its backing using a dremel. After doing this, the computer fits like a glove (no pun intended).

This picture shows the computer inside of the glovebox cubby.

Conveniently, the top and bottom halves of the cubby unsnap and open up. This will allow me to bolt down the computer easily. Did I mention that the computer fits perfectly? :D

I attached the 1-DIN mounting hardware to the display unit.

The next step is soldering all of the wiring harnesses and reading up on the locations of the parking brake wires, reverse signal wires, etc. I plan to solder the wires throughout this week. If all goes well and the weather holds out, I plan on finishing the installation on Friday.

do you want the instructions to hack the n2? This will let you have the monitor functioning while driving. It is not just grounding the parking brake wire. I have instructions if you want. If not you can not play ne thing unless completly stopped with the brake on.

Thanks but no thanks. In all honestly, I will probably never even use the DVD video player. I have the voice command kit, so (supposedly) I will be able to use many of the navigation functions while in motion.

I don't want to try soldering unknown electrical pins together on my brand new and expensive unit as most "fixes" suggest without providing any schematics or background info. It can't be safe trying to watch DVDs while driving anyways.

Looks like he is putting the brain in the Glove box in the Map pocket. My brain went under my seat and the nav unit went in the Map pocket.......:D

Yeah he got the 1din, and you don't need to move the Trip computer for that, only for the double din install ;)

Correct. The screen is going in the single-DIN fascia in the center of the dashboard, and the computer is going in the glove box. I chose the glovebox because I want to have access to the AUX inputs without having to dig under the seat. This will allow me to connect my Minidisc player or portable Sirius radio in seconds.

Man I can't wait to get this thing installed!
