Horn Cover Removal?

Recommended Posts

Don't ask how it got there, but I must retrieve a house key that got stuck inside the horn cover on the steering wheel. I have searched, but found no how-to horn cover removal - plenty of how to remove the wheel (after the cover is off). The car cannot be driven until the metal key is removed. Does it just pop straight off?

Help greatly appreciated.

There are two torx bit screws, one on either side of the steering wheel. Can't remember the size off hand. You'll be removing the airbag assembly so disconnect the battery before just to be safe. Take those screws loose, pull the assembly out, remove key, reinstall.

Those two Torx screws are tight, but loosening them (they're captive screws) allowed me to remove the airbag and get to the key. It was jammed between the hub/spoke framework and the plastic back.

He was holding the loose key in his hand, it fell right into the gap between the airbag and the wheel.
