05legacygtturbo
Hey all just wanted to know how I might know if my turbo went out? I was driving the other day and all of a sudden I lost power(not all power, but I limped home) I went out a couple days later and started it up and I noticed white smoke coming out of the exhaust. So..... How do I know if it is the turbo or if it is something worse than that? side note:I forgot to put that its white smoke just white. No blueish white or blackish white, its just white smoke. Scooter
Sounds like maybe a head gasket, rather than the turbo. White smoke means coolant, and none of that goes to the turbo, just oil. Seek first to understand, then to be understood. In other words: SEARCH before you post!
napstermike
Sounds like maybe a head gasket, rather than the turbo. White smoke means coolant, and none of that goes to the turbo, just oil. All subaru turbos are oil and coolant fed. check the levels of the coolant and oil and go from there. after the car warms up does the white exhaust go away? 05legacygtturbo
The white smoke from start up until I turn car off. Then after car is off you can still see some white smoke coming from the exhaust.Like it is excess.
Refuge
I fixed my CV Boot and the smoke left but now its BACK! It is coming from this area labeled DRIPS above. It drips from there down to the following area. All Passenger Side and All behind the Timing Belt case. http://legacygt.com/forums/../attachment.php?attachmentid=92889&thumb=1&d=1290749898 Has anyone heard of this? ebarthelman
After you drive a bit. Turn the car off and pop the cap to the coolant overflow resevior, if it smells like exhaust, it's a head gasket or even worse a cracked block.
