ABP OBXT with 18" Tarmac II's

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody,

Sorta new around here (I don't post much here, mostly spend time at subaruforester.org), but have been around Subies for awhile. This site is great, but the OBXT forum seems ssslllooooowwwww. We need some more action around here, so here is some Outback lovin':

The Outback is stock for now, sans wheels and tires. I love to driving it, it has a much more refined ride than the Forester. The Forester is just a beast.

I mostly drive it because my wife gets scared of the power. ......:iam::icon_tong

...............so she sticks with the Outback most of the time. :dm:

I hope you all enjoy the pics, everyone enjoys a thread with pics! I look forward to spending some more time here.

I'm not a big fan of dark wheels but those looke darn fine on your car!

Thanks! I painted them myself with Duplicolor Graphite wheel paint. I was hoping they were going to be a little lighter (more the color of the gray body cladding), but I really think it looks great and helps balance the large dark windows.

The wheels were oiginally gold:

Sa-Weet shots! Does the Forester have more power than the OBXT?

Forester hands down, it has over 100hp and 150lbs more torque. The gearing in the Forester turns it into a slingshot.

Awesome color combo w/the ABP. :) Makes me wish I'd have gone darker with my choice of rims!

the darker color wheels change the visual character of the OB (in a good way :) ), nice! Are you running 245/45s ?

The tires are 235/50, I went slightly taller to fill in the well, I do not plan on lowering it (that is what the Forester is for).

BTW, Drewster, your OBXT is dead sexy (gotta love black on silver!!!!). It prompted me to get an OBXT instead of LGT.

^ Thankyee very much! :D

I think I'll definitely do this on my stockers, first. :) I've always wanted them to be darker, too.

I'm picking up my summer rims/tires setup from a local enthusiast who is converting his '04 STi suspension. Killer deal on a set of near-mint PFF7s w/ decent rubber. There's very slight curb-rash on one wheel, and this might be just the ticket to both make those spots look better, as well as give the car a more unique look.

I dunno, I'm gonna have to see how well the ABP "takes" to the "Bright Flitter" finish of the PFF7s, first, though. :) I know that with WRB, I would have liked the rims to be a bit darker, but with the increased grey in the pallet of our ABP, maybe this finish would strike my fancy?

Regardless, I thank you most sincerely for the link, as I definitely will be doing this with my stockers!

Finally somebody's putting some good looking wheels on an OBXT. I was thinking about doing the same thing to my all black 05 OBXT, but was really hesitant because no one really does it. Now I have a great feel for what it'll look like.

wow, this is an old thread resurrected!

I appreciate the compliments, if it had not been for the email notification, I would have not seen your new post. I still spend most of my forum time on subaruforester.org.

The Outback is wifey's, but I enjoy driving it. She gets alot of compliments on the wheels, and I really love the look. To me, the Outback has such a better line and appeal to it over the Legacy. I am so used to the bulkier look of the OBXT, everytime I see a LGT on the road, it looks so simple and lacking substance (not to offend any Legacy owners, it is still a sweet car!)

The Outback is completely stock, sans wheels/tires. I have been meaning to put in a bigger rear sway bar, the ass end of this thing is scary sloppy. Any reccomendations?

I can recommend the JDM 20mm hollow (~18mm solid), just installed. But Rallitek's $99 19mm would be tempting.

Heck, even the 16mm LGT bar was an improvement over the stock 15 (NA).

Generally not a fan of big rims, but the black, combined with larger tire diameter, really works.

Get any fender rubbing?

Thanks for the reply, I think I will look into the RalliTek.

Never had any rubbing issues, it comes close on the front though. I need to take some better pictures and post them up, the wheels are a dark gray, but definately look almost black in these pics. :icon_conf

Well I'm kind of going through the same process as you are right now. I just picked up a used OBXT last saturday and I'm starting to develop my plan of attack on what I'm going to do to it. I've been reading a lot of stuff on swaybars, and apparently their are two major options that most OBXT owners go for. The Cusco swaybar is probably one of the most popular, but the COBB is popular too. However, the COBB is not specifically made for the OBXT and it has some fitment issues when installed on the OB's. COBB now has it recognized on their site that their swaybars are not intended for OB's at this time. SO... Cusco might be the way to go.

Hey OP Skip---- car looks great!! How is the paint looking after a few months???

Thanks, UBER

Well, good timing on the question, and thanks for the compliment.

Had the day off today so I dropped wifey at work, and came home and washed it up. I took notice of the wheels, and the paint is holding up like a factory finish. The only chipping is where the wife curbed them. :icon_mad:

But all in all the finish still looks like it did the day I painted them. She looks good washed, I need to take some pics. BTW- I ordered the Rallitek rear sway today. Woohoo new toys!

I am little scared, the very first mod I did to the Forester was the rear sway bar...that was the start of the addiction to the tune of $8,000+ spent in mods on that beast (but I love it, it'll spank anything :icon_bigg ). I can't let that happen to the OBXT, just want to tighten her up a bit.

on a side note- lbcgolf- beautiful OBXT you got there!
