PeterJMC
I've read great things about http://www.performancewindowtinting.com/ in Columbia, MD. My friends have had great experience with http://www.protintshopmd.com/ in Rockville, MD. My dad had my tint on my Legacy done at HP Racing in Glen Burnie and they did a great job I had the tint done in my Prius at Winners Tint in Rockville, MD and it was Meh. Seemed like a lazy and rushed job. I wouldn't go back there personally. I'm sure they would be more than happy to do it for free, but they had their chance to do it right the first time. They also installed my clear bra which was good but came out Meh too.
JJBerk
^^ Thanks! I still haven't done it - RSB came first. Next - tint! I work in Columbia, so that shop may be the answer.
PeterJMC
^^ Thanks! I still haven't done it - RSB came first. Next - tint! I work in Columbia, so that shop may be the answer. I believe that they carry SunTek and Huper Optik tints only. So if you want another brand, you might have to travel. When I had my tints installed, I didn't do much research other than identifying that I wanted Ceramic tint and not metallic. After having had them installed for about 6 months I discovered performance data for each tint manufacture. I've been wanting to get my tint redone now with 3M crystalline tint for about 2 years now. I might bite the bullet this summer.
jbangoy
HP racing in glen burnie has a groupon for $89 right now. T and A detailing on dobbin rd had one for $99 I bought theirs, but they sold so many they are backed up so I couldn't get an appointment for a few weeks

I have an apt in Columbia tomorrow. Now I'm thinking I should be more informed?
PeterJMC
Ok, so teach me. If it has a lifetime guarantee, what else matters? (Yes, I'm a noob, no, I'm not being snarky... Really tell me.) I have an apt in Columbia tomorrow. Now I'm thinking I should be more informed? The number I'm looking at is the Total Solar Energy Rejected (TSER). Easy way to read this is the higher the percentage, the more heat is rejected. SunTek CXP 45 (50% TSER) Llumar CTX 40 (41% TSER) 3M Crystalline 40 (59% TSER) I have Llumar CTX 40 tint on my car right now. Don't get me wrong, I love the tint, I'd just rather have more heat rejection than what I have right now. My priority is for heat rejection because I spend up to 4 hours commuting every weekday and the more heat my tint rejects, the less my A/C has to work. This equates to less battery drainage (Prius has an electronic A/C compressor) and better gas mileage from being able to use more energy from the battery. If I didn't have such a long commute or run my A/C so often, I would have no issues with the Llumar CTX 40 tint. For $200, it's great! For price comparisons these are the prices I got quotes for SunTek was definitely the best buy of the three: SunTek CXP 45 - $225 Llumar CTX 40 - $200 3M Crystalline 40 - $410 If you are going to go to that place in Columbia, they offer SunTek. You might as well just go to HP Racing since they also install SunTek and they have a GroupOn for you to purchase $89 towards a $189 of tinting. You'd be saving probably somewhere around $100. You might want to call to confirm with them on the tint you want and how much of the GroupOn would cover it. http://www.groupon.com/deals/hp-racing?pt=aUYcQ0zAAAACXA2c1D7XAmrKIHkS7j6-x&utm_medium=afl&utm_campaign=6147339&utm_source=rvs Data Sheets: Sun Tek Data Carbon XP Sheet http://www.suntekfilms.com/files/8268_suntek_indv_specsheet_auto_CXP.pdf 3M Crystalline Data sheet, Click on "View Product Information" to see performance data. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/ScotchgardAutoProtection/Home/CarBuyers/Home/Products/WindowFilm/CrystallineWindowFilm/ Llumar Data sheet http://www.llumar.com/pdf/en/LLumarAutoSpecsUS.pdf
JJBerk
Thanks a ton for all of this information. I have an apt at the Columbia shop this morning, so I may end up going for it. It's a challenge to coordinate rides and stuff and that's already all in place (priceless!). I'm going to read these data sheets before I go so I have an idea of what to talk about. I don't have the crazy commute (haven't I already called you crazy once?!) that you do, and my car is hardly fuel efficient as it is, but this gives me a great education. Thanks!! JJBerk
I wound up keeping my appointment. I chose Suntek CXP at 35%. My fingers are crossed. I'm a bit of a wimp, so I'm hoping it's not TOO dark. I pick it up in a couple of hours. Thanks again for all of your insight. Much appreciated.
