Got a question for ya if you can help.

I have had the Jazzy board installed for about a year and a half. Yesterday I had the left chl od my stereo cutting out on CD's and my Sirius. The AM/FM is fine.

Do you think it could be the ribbon cable or could it be the CD player itself.

Just trying to get ideas before I yank my stereo out.

Thanks....

It's just an audio connection - has nothing to do with the ribbon cable or radio. Either the audio cable is a little loose at either end or the jack on the aux-in board itself is a little loose. Usually just reinserting the cable, jiggling it or turning it is enough to get it to work again - mine actually did it a couple weeks last summer & then it went away on its own & never came back.

If you can't get it to work after reinserting the cables & such, I can replace the jack on the board...or if you're handy with a soldering iron & would rather do it yourself, I can send you a new audio jack - just let me know.

Would you happen to have a PDF of the walkthrough you sent with the unit?
The installation instructions are available at the beginning of this thread & on my website: http://www.jazzyengineering.com/Installation_Manual_1-2.pdf

For those of you having problems with Sirius (both with the aux-in and just generally), you can probably blame the FCC. I don't know if it's because they can't get off Howard Stern's ass or what, but I heard from an extremely reliable inside source that Sirius' output from their satellite(s) and repeaters was deemed to be too strong, so the FCC cut them to less than half normal output around 8-12 months ago (I forget exactly when).

Nobody had service anywhere, so Sirius fought (read: bribed, probably) the government to allow some signal strength to be restored, but not much was, so Sirius decided that audio quality had to be cut in favor of stronger signal. I have a hardwired Sirius unit (non-portable or removable) in my Jeep and the quality still isn't so great, nowhere near CD or even radio, really....Bass is pitiful, too. My home unit has the same story, as well as my girlfriend's.

But in case you haven't noticed, the "poor signal quality" warning is rarer than ever (if you have your antenna installed properly - IE, near center of roof). I've never lost my signal in my Jeep ever since the change (outside of tunnels and parking garages).

PS: I'm not saying that Sirius units can't have an issue with the aux-in board. Hell, my S50 didn't always sound as loud with it.....but I just wanted to let you guys know that if it seems quality diminished, don't blame the aux-in board solely...this could be why.

My turn to weigh in on the Jazzy Board:

I have had mine installed for about a month now and it is absolutely excellent.

Installation: No real problems here, except I didn't realize just how deep into the radio I was going to have to go. I thought I was going to find Jimmy Hoffa in there!

Functionality: Top marks here too. The "blank" CD works like a charm. My only complaint here has nothing to do with the Jazzy board, but the volume output of the Sirius receiver itself. It is pretty weak and at highway speeds, I have to run the Legacy's radio at about "24" to get it loud enough to hear comfortably over road noise. (regular radio and cd's typically play at level "12" or so...) At first it was worse than that though....... I was having to turn it up into the "30's". At that point, the radio was running out of horsepower. The bass and treble dropped out and it spiked the mid range. I was really disappointed because it sounded like CRAP!!! I figured out what was wrong though, my "FM Transmitter" was still running and when I switched it off, I got an instant boost in volume. Much better......

I highly recommend this product.http://legacygt.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gifhttp://legacygt.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gifhttp://legacygt.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gifhttp://legacygt.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif Thanks Jazzy!!

Any thoughts to what could be causing the sound of the Silent CD spinning to be coming through the audio when the Aux-in is in use?

i consistently have a hissing sound when my cs turns on as well

Do you have a GLI? What are you plugging into the aux-in board? It sounds like you're both getting some kind of audio inteference/noise over the audio cable somehow cuz I have zero noise with the Silent CD playing & no other audio playing...

Hrm... In that case the only thing I can think of is that the signal from the XM commander has some noise on it..? Have you tried disconnecting the unit alltogether to see if there's noise when nothing's connected?

If I disconnect the XM, the sound goes away (you mean as if I was trying to "play" the silent CD as a regular cd in the changer, right?) b/c if the silent CD is selected in the changer, and playing, and the XM is disconnected there is no interference. However - is the aux-in designed to have the silent cd in a certain slot in the changer (1 thru 6)?

These may be dumb questions but i just cant figure this thing out - and im so jealous that everyone else has "crystal clear" success....

The CD position shouldn't matter.....in fact, any CD you play in any slot will allow the sound through exactly the same I believe.

Is your volume on the XM unit very low at the same time your volume on your Subaru stereo is very high (if it's adjustable - sometimes there is a volume control or output control)?

I see the XM Commander has RCA jacks instead of a headphone jack...what's your setup with the GLI? Commander control unit directly to GLI then to aux-in? Don't know if this will change anything but maybe something is backwards or something...such as GLI input plugged in as outputs or something.

Finished Jazzy board install last night. Works great, sound quality is excellent, and best thing- no wires hanging around ! The only funny thing is that I can hear my MP3 player output on the background when I select FM/AM. Does not bother me much though

Will try to get couple other people with 05 Legacies to get it, I am even willing to help them with install.

Great mod, thanks a lot !

Jazzy, you should really come up with some touchscreen mod for non-Navi Subarus

Success! I worried mostly about removing the radio, but the instructions are outstanding. I had only two small problems: (1) I dropped one of the 6 screws that hold in the radio. It's gone forever. (2) I could not find the wire from the antenna to connect to the one hanging out the back of the radio. Weird. I probably spent half an hour searching with a flashlight and feeling around in the console. I fear that I was staring at it all the time, but I just could not see it. Anyway, I'm thinking that I will be listening to my player for a while, so I won't need FM. Thanks for a great kit and great instructions.

Jeff,

The radio antenna connector is clipped to the lower driver side of the radio opening. It's a small, square, gray plug about half the size of a box of matches. I'm glad you're enjoying the aux-in though.

f1anatic - Sorry, I didn't see your message until now. I don't always get notifications for some reason. Anyway, it's probably too late, but I do offer overnight shipping by request for $20 instead of the normal $5.

I suspect that the problem is that the radio antenna connector came unclipped. I won't know for sure until I pull out the radio again, but I was looking for something like that and I'm pretty sure I found the place where it should have been clipped. In case I am right, any suggestions on how to raise the connector from the bowels of the console? Any idea from where the antenna wire enters the console? I searched for a loose wire before and found nothing.

I had similar issue with antenna connector - couldn't find it when was installing HU back into console.

What happened in my case was that antenna connector got unclipped from wall and then fell into opening between left side wall of console and carpet. The problem was made worse by the antenna cable that also routed itself between console wall and carpet. I couldn't see the antenna connector until I looked into console opening from the right side - that is, from passenger side, almost at seat level.

Hope this helps.
