Danteneon
Yep, that's right. I come from a long history with Chrysler vehicles, most recently Neons. I'm a moderator on 2GN.org and have a 1 of 31 Stone White 2002 Neon ACR. But enough of that, this is for my Outback. It is a 2008 black on black XT Limited 5EAT without nav. The original owner had the car delivered with compass mirror with Homelink, STi pedals, and a rear cargo tray. I picked it up right after my birthday in August from the dealer I work for (I'm the parts manager for Brown's Manassas Subaru). Since this is to be my daily so I can mod the Neon for track duty, the desire to mod it was not very strong. At first. Sorry in advance for the less than stellar pics. Here she is along with my wife's 2008 LGT. She works at the dealer with me as well. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0222.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0223.jpg Within a week I plasti-diped the grille. Waaay too much chrome up there. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0224.jpg The OBK was in pretty good shape overall. Some scrapes, dents, dings on the exterior, and only minor wear inside. Fairly odd hole worn in the carpet above the floor mat along the trans tunnel though. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0232.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0227.jpg Next mods were adding all weather mats, a remote starter, and this little gem... http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0230.jpg Current project is adding flappy paddle shifters. Down the road I will be ordering the JDM HVAC double din stereo kit and a Pioneer AVIC. Once I recover from the mods I've already done Thanks for looking. More to come... BAC5.2
Black grille looks surprisingly good on the black car, good work. You should definitely talk to ClimberD about getting him working on the 08+ modified valve body, and center diff replacement bushings (to replace roller bearings). Those mods, along with the flappy paddles, would make a pretty fun little car. And a trans cooler. Danteneon
Thanks! The plasti-dip matches the flat black trim nicely. I disassembled the grille entirely to paint it. The whole job took about 3 hours including drying time. I have been spending the past month reading the various forums getting ideas for smart upgrades. I love the work ClimberD has done with the modded valve bodies on the previous gen trans. He was saying how the 5EAT was going to be a major pain, but here's hoping. I'm not familiar with a center diff bearing issue though. Do you think the trans cooler is necessary? Power plans are VF52, upgraded TMIC, fuel pump, and tune. I like to cook my pets and my family. BAC5.2
Trans cooler seems to be a common "required" mod with 5EAT guys. The bearings apparently grenade if you aggressively launch the 5EAT. Replacing needle bearings with bushings prevents that from happening. Danteneon
Thanks! And that is a nice looking avatar I finally got my flappy paddles installed and wired up. It's so nice to use them rather than having to use the shifter. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0243.jpg I even got the correct column covers. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0244.jpg I was going to mod my covers, but there was no way to make them look good. Had to expose some wires to get to the correct ones to tap into. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0238.jpg But really, it was cake to install. Danteneon
Thats awesome! I was interested in doing that with mine, how much of a pain was it for real? Thank you sir Doing this on a 2008-2009 is really easy since everything is already pretty much wired and there is a mounting point already in place for the switch. Doing this on a 2007 though...that is a whole different ball game. GTTuner
Nice work, I had an 04 SRT-4, it ran mid 12's. I got sick of the horrible NVH and wheel hopping launches so I moved up the the Legacy GT. Welcome to the forum!

moreuseful
Nice job on the paddle shifters! Do you happen to have the part numbers necessary? I was able to find the shifter assembly, but can't seem to pin down the correct numbers for the column covers. Did you need both the top and bottom or just the bottom? Thanks! Danteneon
Big update! I (and others on here) have been thinking about using 245/45/18 on a 8.5" wheel using Legacy suspension. The question as to how they fit and clear everything was the deciding factor. Worry not, they work great! The set-up I'm using is all US market parts...Spec B struts, Spec B front springs, and Legacy GT Wagon rear springs. I've been amassing parts for a while to do this all at the same time. I drove me nuts to wait, but I'm glad I did. So pretty when they are clean. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0262_zps91360fb2.jpg How much clearance there is at the perch. Sorry for the dark pic. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0268_zps6fa6b640.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0266_zpsf7b07d27.jpg At the control arm at full lock http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0270_zps2935f50a.jpg I was going to install the Spec B control arms I have, but I couldn't get the ball joint out of the knuckle. I kept the stock jounce bumper though. There is maybe a 1/4" difference between them. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0272_zpsdd6139b5.jpg No clearance issues at all in the back. As far as how it handles, night and freaking day difference. The ride is as firm as my wife's LGT, but not as harsh. It reminds me a lot of the KW coil-overs I have on my Neon. Danteneon
Well, it's been a year now. Time for an update! I spent the past weekend finally finishing the suspension work and brake upgrades. 6 hours on Saturday, 21 hours Sunday into Monday, a couple of hours Tuesday and Wednesday, and she is finally finished! Let me tell you, this was some of the hardest work I have done in a driveway in my 27 plus years of wrenching. Those rear axles can kiss my butt. Anywho, on to pics. I installed the SPT V2 exhaust a couple of weeks ago, but I hadn't posted any pictures till now. Quite a tight fit, but it sounds so damn sexy! http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0356_zps6nxocfb7.jpg The front SpecB control arms are now on, along with the SPT lower brace. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0355_zpsusup72du.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0357_zpsedvgq6hj.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0358_zpslnqv9rp5.jpg In the rear, the SpecB trailing arms got new wheel bearings, along with the KNS STI adaptor brackets for the STI calipers. Here is the grinding that was required to make the brackets sit correctly... http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0360_zpsyzqbds31.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0362_zpsloopoitl.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0363_zpslykf7igt.jpg It's had to see through the anti-seize, but the reason the axles were so hard to get out was because they had corroded inside the old hubs enough to pit the metal fairly well. A 5 ton 3 jaw puller with a 1/2" breaker bar and a jack handle extension was requires to press the axles out. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0364_zpsnyw2jsef.jpg Quick (and blurry) pics of the Brembos.. http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0368_zpsduvetzjx.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0367_zpsjviyxrqm.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0366_zpsxiypwuhu.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0365_zpsgbtk61nj.jpg http://i156.photobucket.com/albums/t36/danteomni/Car%20Pics/OBK/IMAG0369_zpsrhqzrpcy.jpg I'll get some additional (and cleaner!) pics this afternoon.
