Pick up this relatively clean beauty for cheap. Yeah, it has 175K on it, and there is a little rust on the rear quarter, but everything else is solid!!

Car is a bone stock OBW. I have a few ideas on what mods I will do. First and foremost is putting my WRX seats and STi shift know in. I didn't really like the stock seats. I just have to get the tools so I can put the seat heaters and power adjuster on the WRX seats.

After that, off to the body shop to take care of the rust and get an estimate to have the cladding painted the to match the rest of the car. Not a big fan of the two tone, but I love the colour.

I'll take some day shots tomorrow. I was just so excited about the car.

The interior is MINT. I will have some pics for that tomorrow.

Mods that I want to do.

Engine: I loved the UELs on my BG, so that will be the route that I am going, but I have to figure out an exhaust system for it. I will be doing a 2.5" cat and then work on a 2.25" exhaust from there. I want that Scooby rumble. Long term, I am thinking of a EJ255/257 Hybrid and a turbo kit.

Exterior: Not sure if I want to do much to the exterior. I may just get some JDM tails and a roof spoiler and be done with it. I like the body cladding, just hate the colour.

Interior: Gonna keep it pretty stock. I have an STi shift knob and I actually like the stock interior.

Brakes: BL/BP LGT Front brakes

ICE: This may be the car I finally do my carputer in. Technology has made leaps and bounds over the past 6 years, so I will be looking at something Android or Ubuntu based for the OS. I want to make it nice and integrated. With my unlimited data plan, I will have internet and GPS access in the car.

I will probably get more ideas as I go along, but this is the start of something beautiful.

Some daytime shots. I love the colour of this car. It is missing a few things right now.

Nothing too meaningful to add since I have been spending time on the wife's car and just enjoying driving this one.

I did remove the AWD stickers from the rear windows as well as the SIA sticker. Now, I am ready for tint!

Time to clean the cruddy terminals. The first step in getting rid of this P0420 CEL I have.

The tiny bits of rust that will be getting fixed in the next week or so. $250 to repair them all with paint match.

These aren't too terrible, but I want to get it done before it gets worse.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got some new seats today. Straight trade for my cloth seats. I am diggin' the bippu style this car is starting to acquire. Next is to find a nice OBW VDC or LL Bean leather and mahogany Momo steering wheel.

Also did my headlights. Took 20 mins with the Turtle Wax headlight restorer kit and it looks 100% better than it was. Not perfect, but I will be redoing them again before I Laminx them.

WOW, I need to get that headlight restoration kit for my '04 LLBean; that thing worked like a charm for you and God knows my car needs it!!!

Also, very nice leather interior conversion!! You planning on grabbing some door cards too?

Also, some advice for you car-puter idea (one I myself am thinking of tackling sometime too)... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-ALYArl5S4]iPad Dash Install - YouTube[/ame]

Thanks. I am planning on keeping the cloth door cards because I think they look better than the leather ones. As for the carputer, I won't be doing anything with an Apple iDevice in my car. I love my Mac, but can't stand the iDevices. I have a lot of the parts that I need for the build, I just need to put together a computer and see if I can find a nice frontend for Linux or Android. If not I will be running Winblows 7.

Is it possible to load linux on an iDevice? Because the thing about that vid that blew me away was how well the iPad fit into the dash. Seems like the iPad is the best option for that reason alone, unless one of the other good tablets has similar/identical dimensions.

It's possible, but not worth it. I will be building a stand alone PC. I already have a touch screen LCD monitor (single DIN flip up) and I can build the PC itself to fit in a double DIN slot. the hardest part is powering the thing and then running the wiring to an amp for the speakers.

I thought about putting a tablet in, either Windows based or Android based, but that would just be something that someone would want to break into my car and steal it. The car PC will just look like blanked out spots in the DINs. Nothing to look at here folks.

I plan on running all of my OBDII software through there and if I really wanna go crazy, do an EZ36 Swap with a stand alone.

I'm a systems admin and engineer by trade, so this will be a neat project for me, and possibly a lucrative boutique business. :woowoo:

Here it is in completely. There are two things that I ran into with this. The hanger for the cat doesn't line up great. You have to fight with it to get it in. In my fight, the bolt was stripped, so off the the dealership for a new one. The second is you will need to double up on the gasket between the cat and the mid-pipe. That is the only leak I found so far. I have to still see if the "skidplate" fits with the header.

I will try to get better pics when I have it up on a lift, but It fit very well. Better than the DNAs I had for my BG.

One of the things I found out today is the bolts that they give you with the kit SUUUUUCKK!! Two of the stripped out on me while tightening them. I went to my local hardware store an picked up 4 Grade 8 M10 -1.25 bolts and the associated hardware. The bolts that you get are Grade 4 cheap Chinese scheisse!

There is absolutely no drone on the highway at all between 55 and 75 mph. It's a little raspy, but tolerable and really quiet at idle, with the slight burble.

For those interested, here are some pics of the oil filter clearance.

Didn't finish the rust fix yet. I have been running around trying to get other stuff fixed on mine and my wife's car. As for the middle head rest, when I got the car it had a cloth interior, and the middle head rest was one of the short ones (post '02). Since the interior is out of a 2000, it has the big meddle head rest. I am looking for an '02 black leather one so the interior looks complete, like it is supposed to be there.
