highlandflyer
Hi Guys, can anybody tell me if a set of 225/50/17 tyres I have on my forester as winters fitted on 2008 wrx 17x7 alloys will fit a standard 05 spec b wagon? I think they probably will but don't have car yet and need to know. Any ideas?
Gire
Are you in Australia? We didn't get a Spec B wagon in North America, only a Spec B sedan from 2006 - 2009. And it came with factory 18" wheels. If the Spec B wagon you are going to buy comes with 18's, then they won't work. I'm sure you could fit the 17x7 alloys on the Spec B though. highlandflyer
I'm in Scotland and importing a 2.0 spec b wagon from Japan. Does come with 18" alloys, why won't the 17" wrx alloys (both 5x100) with 225/50 not fit?
Gire
I thought you were asking about the tires specifically fitting the new wagon. If you are talking about the 17" wheels fitting on the wagon then yes, they will. 17" tires will not fit on a 18" wheel. But I'm sure you know that. highlandflyer
No I just want to know if 225/50/17 will fit a spec b std suspension
Rhitter
Yes they should fit. I have 225/55/17 on basically the stock spec B suspension My OBXT build
highlandflyer
Thanks Rhitter, that's what I wanted to hear! How does ride compare to std set up tires? Is handling compromised a lot? How tight are your tires on strut mounts?
Rhitter
Tires are tight. Rears rub a little on the inside fender liners (but these 225/55/17s seem to be huge compared to the previous). About a pinkies width of space in the front on the upper strut mount. This is the standard Outback size, so I don't have a lot to compare it to. I generally used all seasons (DWS) or Winters (dunlop winterforce 3d) both of those have softer sidewalls. So the ride is a lot softer. Handling doesn't feel that comprised (for reasonable speeds - i.e. kind of quick) but for sure sucks for actual performance driving. You will probably want to add rear strut spacers to the wagon when you get it. Subaru's asses seem to sag a lot. With 225/50/17 you should do just fine. I have 255/40/18 or 18x9 et 40 and those have been a huuuge pain to fit. My OBXT build
