bengt
Hi, I'm curious if a 2005 wrx wagon steering rack will fit in my 98 LGT wagon with a 90-94 turbo legacy engine crossmember. I've heard everything is fine up until 05 and won't fit after, but wondering if anyone has any experience or knowledge on this. Thank you.
subikid90
You will need the 05+ wrx cross member to make the rack fit. I did this swap in my car -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap

subikid90
Yes it has a shorter turn radius then the LGT and way shorter radius then the outback. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap

bengt
Bummer! Does the stock rag joint fit into the 05 rack? Or do you have to change that too?
98 OB RNV
I guess if I went through this much of a process it would be a little more justification to actually put a WRX engine in it.

bengt
Well I got it installed. Super easy actually. The 05 rack is the new style mounting, where the drivers side mounts through the rack and not with a bracket like the passenger side. All the holes lined right up and were perfect. Only problem was the input shaft that the rag joint connects too is a bit bigger around and a different spline. I tooK apart the rack side of the rag joint and installed a lower coupler with the correct spline so I had old on the top at the colomn and new on the bottom at the rack and it went real smooth. Such a great upgrade, should have done it long ago.

vr4
Damn that doesn't help me but at least opens up options. Thanks
bengt
No problem. Well since it fits the old I would venture to assume you could make it work in just about everything
