At least the Turbo seemed to make it undamaged... This will be part of the next story though!

My guess is bad detonation occurred bending some rods. Which made the block upset and it decided to crack in several locations the worst appears to be near one of the case bolts.

Material Tests on Ringland Failure Piston

I should have held off and purchased a wagon instead of the spec.B

Truth is... These are unseen pictures from 2013. Everything is history now. After I post all these pictures I will post what got done to fix it all as the story goes on... I am about to add all the engine tear down pictures.

So you did a 4th to 1st missed shift or something?! That kind of carnage must have been a spectacular bang.

Nope. near 400whp with an incorrect tune for what had been done to the engine to fix a cracked ringland. Car was misfiring and I thought I could 'drive it out' but the rod was already bent by then and as it fussed I gave it more gas, boost came on and yes... a bang. Not as spectacular as you might imagine. A muffled sort of bang and then the sound of rocks in a tin bucket. I limped the car on essentially three cylinders to the next exit and that was the end of that engine.

All pictures are now posted!! Enjoy... or throw up. I did.

Again. PLEASE NOTE! This all happened in 2013 - This is not happening now, this is all history and over, done and solved! The car is working just fine today with a new engine, obviously this one was a bit beyond repair!

well... the final result was more than just 'bent' but the night before this all happened was when I 'bent' the rod. I know when I caused that and I saw all kinds of debris flying out of the back but shrugged it off. On the piston with part of the rod still inside it, there was chamfering on one side of the top of the piston where the rod had started to cause the piston to run twisted in the bore and it was rubbing on the bore.

The misfires when this happened were because the cylinder was no longer sealed and things were so well trashed at that moment when I boosted the car up the resulting larger misfire snapped the bent rod completely and unleashed hell.

Had I not snapped the rod the block may still not have been salvageable because of the bore damage (Although I ended up with a used block I put AEBS sleeves in so it could have served as a donor part for that (Saving me only $500)) - Debris in the oil would still have probably damaged everything else. So it went boom and now you can all see these wonderful pictures. My gift to you all along with a warning about what happens when you push things just a bit too far and you think nothing can go wrong.
