thefastone88
I just picked up this car from a Texas dealer and the first thing I noticed was this noise. Thought it was a bad tire Continental DWS. Rotated from to back to see if that helped. . .nope. Then noticed that the front tire had a large plug and the tread was separating so I got it replaced under Continental Warranty 65% not bad. . .didn't fix the noise. Thinking either wheel bearing or other rotating issue. Any ideas before I dive in replacing things? Thanks for the help!!
I Donated Too sigmafour Posted February 26, 2013 I Donated Too Share Posted February 26, 2013 going to go with wheel bearing. Car under 100K miles? Probably too old now anyway - I forget how many years they covered it for but 100K miles they extended the warranty out for the wheel bearings... thefastone88
Yeah I was thinking that as well. She only has 84K so maybe they will cover it at the Subie dealership. I will go by and let them check it out. Thanks for the tip!
Max Capacity
It's 8 years as I recall, for the rear only I think it was. If you want to DIY they are farily easy if you have the right tools. You can use aftermarket like Moog for the rears, but YOU MUST use OEM's for the front. If not you will get a CEL and Cruise control will surge. OEM are about $130 each, I took back the Moogs for the front and got my $150 each back from the local auto parts store. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Engine Build - Click Here
dhmioyrgo
And don't forget that the big chain auto-supply stores rent out the more specialty tools just for the cost of a security deposit (Larger torque wrenches, slide hammer, etc.) which you get back upon return. Way more worth it than paying labor.

Sackajacka
Isn't the extended bearing coverage for rears only? Just had one done a few months ago under warranty. Tried to convince them the other rear was bad but no dice
bluesuby
I had both rears replaced under warranty at 60,000. I had the left rear done again at about 104,000 free from SOA. Around 110.000 I heard noise again and it was the left front. SOA said they "could work with me" on rear bearings, but the front bearings would be up to me. I used some Subybucks and had the work done. When I picked up the car I heard the mechanic make some derogatory comments about the Whiteline LCA bushings I had installed at Fred Beans (along with Konis all around). I asked him why I had to replace the bushings at 70.000 miles if the OEM parts were so f'in great. This ended up with the typical "I'm a mechanic and I know more than you" bullshit, and it's the last time I'll be using Prestige in Turnersville, NJ. Bottom line is SOA will help with rear bearings, and don't be afraid to ask even if you are over the time and mileage "limits".
thefastone88
I asked and got shafted by SOA. Perry Subaru was nice enough to give me a 15% discount and $300 later I have no more growler. . .get this the time on the warranty ran out 3 days ago. That is what I get for procrastination. Thanks again for the information!

thefastone88
Yeah was pissed, but Perry gave me a couple bucks off. Just didn't have the time to rent the tool and make it happen. . .been playing in the mountains snowboarding to much!
I Donated Too sigmafour Posted March 4, 2013 I Donated Too Share Posted March 4, 2013 rent a tool? I've never needed a puller to do the wheel bearings... Well if you didn't mind paying and are enjoying the snow and mountains, all is well that ends well. missing a warranty by 3 days would upset me too.
