How to program new OEM key?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a new genuine key originally from the dealer that looks like the one below. I'm wanting to program the central locking remote. I had a look online for a few tutorials and they all talk about the key having an 8 digit remote code on a small white sticker in the key. However this key does not have that 8 digit code. Possibly because its a genuine OEM key it doesnt need a code to program the central locking buttons?

Anyone know?

Thanks.

That sure looks like the wrong key if you in fact have a 4th gen.

This is what the Subaru "All in One" key looks like.

If you already have two keys programmed to the car, programming instructions for an additional key are outlined in the manual. You'll need both keys in hand to program the 3rd key.

If you only have one key, the dealer will need your security code (located on a very small metal tag which should have came with the keys when you purchased the car), and would have to use the Subaru Select Monitor scan tool to program the new key to the car. If you don't have the security code, the dealer can get that info from SoA, for a small cost.

From what I've read it sounds like this is how you program the remote.

How to program:

Undo the plastic door sill protector (driver door with right hand drive model)

Undo the trianglish plastic plate at the front of the sill protector, right to your gas pedal just at the lower front corner of the doorframe

Hidden under the plate are two cable ends with plastic plugs, possibly clear/whitish. Connect (doesn’t matter whether the window is up or down, the door closed or shut, or the key in ignition or not)

Press “Lock” on the working remote, then immediately afterwards “Lock” on the new one. Then press “Open” with the working remote and straight afterwards “Open” with the new one. That's it.

Don't forget to undo the cables again and re-assemble your car ;o)
