PearlBlueGT
Our cars are notorious for engine damage due to low oil pressure, etc. I'd like to install gauge, give me ideas where I could install one, where to tap line to it, etc.
ehsnils
Usually aftermarket gauges comes with a replacement for the stock sensor where you plug the wire for the sensor into the new sensor. You may need an adapter.
PearlBlueGT
What about those adapters that bolt on top of oil filter, any good or are they crap?
AZP Installs
Sandwich filter adapters work fine. They are the only option on some subies due to routing of lines on top of the engine where we used to install them. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. Mill
There is a galley plug on top of the motor that you can use on the block by the turbo. I run the OEM and an aftermarket pressure sensors. Prosport halo series pressure sensor fits down there with no problems.

Yeah, pro sports sensors fit in the galley on some cars cause well he pros ports stuff is less than stellar, the defi and other reputable ones do not fit.. Mill
I have nothing but good things to say about prosport. Stellar enough for me. I dont need to pay twice as much for a brand name. It reads oil pressure. It doesnt need to be made of gold. The OEM pressure sensor isnt any bigger.

We've installed a lot of them for customers and they have a pretty high failure rate. Yes some will work fine, obviously yours does, but we are speaking from 11+ years of installing parts. Also you don't mention what year your car is so I can't tell if you have one where the galley plug is blocked. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. planelazy
I have Prosports as well, and the quality isn't there, but so far they've been pretty accurate.. as far as I can tell. My oil pressure one came with a sammich plate, and both my oil pressure gauge and boost gauge are mounted in the center cubby hole.
AZP Installs
Remember folks all gauges are not there to be accurate. They are there to let you know if something CHANGES. If you normally run at 50psi and all of a sudden it's running at 40psi, you have a problem. The 50 and 40 may not be accurate but that doesn't matter. The issue we've had with Prosports over the years has been failures and erratic readings. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. dingbang
I guess I've been lucky with my prosports. Have the halo series egt, oil press, and boost. 06 lgt, used the oil galley on top of the block. Only issue I've had is got boost sender wet in fender and shorted it out. Its an 05. Bit defensive are we? I'm just stating that Ive had no problems with ProSport. I'm not knocking your business. Like you said, its important to note when something changes. These will do the job just fine for me. They arent as quick and precise as a mechanical gauge, but they work.

Nah, just a lot of internet bench racers out there It's all good. The change of the gauges is definitely key, we generally run a tight schedule and have fixed install prices, so using inferior gauges that are failure prone, ends up causing unhappy customers and re-works which are difficult on a tight schedule. The newer CAN-bus cars IIRC are the ones with the oil line re-routed to not allow use of that plug in the block. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. False. You can use a remote mount kit to utilize the galley plug under the tmic. There is an additional galley plug under the alternator as well IIRC. Also, Prosport, Glowshift, and other cheap-o gauges are just no. Why would you spend money on something that almost works most of the time? Why would you spend money on something that almost works most of the time? You are right, a remote line works as well, however, for a DIY, it costs more and is harder to install. Readings are no better or worse using that v sandwich and with a sandwich you can also put an oil temp gauge sensor as well. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. Mill
Not a bad idea. You could probably run a T fitting off the galley plug as well and do something similar. However, there may not be room without running a remote mount.
