local meet

I think we need to start planning our next tri-state meet. As we all know of last years AC horror....we need to plan this out a bit better, but I really REALLY loved the cruise down. Years ago I used to rent out a parking lot at Van Suan Park Zoo in Paramus NJ and we were able to host around 75 cars easily and BBQ, but that would definitely defeat the whole cruise part. I am thinking maybe Saturday, June 5th. If noone wants to step up to the plate, and there is enough interest, I can arrange everything. That interest would need to be around 40 cars or so though.

Location can be anywhere and I think to get more people to show up from NY and CT it needs to be either in north jersey or somewhere in NY in the country with a nice drive. We could do paramus and then drive to bear mountain afterwards.

Dunno how a day trip (and back) to AC would be convenient for everyone. Not that I haven't been there before, I have - once too many times (another story). Harriman meets/BBQs have worked out very, very well. The mall up there has worked out eh, ok to not so great at times.

Great initiative for organizing this! I have to tell you first-hand, it's not easy to coordinate but fantastic if you can pull it off.

Good luck.

Just a thought....AZP, how big is your guys parking lot. Maybe we could host it there since you arent too far south?

As good as AZP would be, as a GTG probably not so. Not going to get too many NY/CT people to go down there.

Thats why I liked the Paramus area....very easy to get to for a lot of people.

If people think the paramus works then lets do it. I would like to do a cruise afterwards, and all you have around paramus is city and cops. I would say we could go up 17 to ny maybe by nanuet, but there are cops all over the place there.

I am serious though, if there are enough people showing interest in this, I am all for organizing. I have done it before a bunch of times hosting over 100 cars. Doing it at van suan is really easy, I just need to make sure there is a parking lot available to rent out, if memory serves me correct its like 100 bucks to rent it out. This far in advance shouldnt be an issue. I could also stop at cosco the night before and get bbq stuff. But once again, I will only do this if there is enough interest. I am not gonna shell out money to just sit on my ass with a parking lot permit and a shit load of food. The best part about van suan is if you have kids, you can easily just take them into the zoo for a little while, or even before the meet just to keep them from driving you nuts. Plus there is a gigantic field there to play any sort of outdoors game (soccer, football, frisbie, lay on the ground and watch clouds, i dont know) Of course, there is absolutely no screwing around there, they will kick the whole group out in a heart beat.

I would need a little help with planning a route for the cruise so any suggestions are highly appreciated. It would probably be like $5 a person just to cover cost of everything.

paramus would be cool. or exit 17 on the palisades parkway (before bear mtn) Anthony Wayne park (commuter lot) its giant, nice drive, andquick swing to bear mtn then, or perkins tower for good photos.

This is right off of the website for bergen county.

Van Saun County Park - Forest & Continental Avenue, Paramus

6 Picnic Areas: B-1 (40 tables), B-2 (30 tables), D (10 tables), E (18 tables), G (6 tables), H (t25 tables);

3 Pavilions (All have electricity): C (415), F (240), I (160)

Amenities:

1 Baseball Field, 1 Softball Field, Playground (handicap accessible), Basketball Court (temporarily closed

for reconstruction), Tennis Courts (concession), Zoo, Pony Rides, Train Ride, Bike Path, Soccer Field (seasonal permit only), Fishing (w/NJ fishing license)

Thats what Van Saun has to offer us, like I said before, I have done a few meets there and it does work out great. I could take a ride over there one day and pick out the best area for us to have for pictures. It had said on a different link that in order to get the date you want, it has to be submitted 3 weeks in advance. If we have between 50 - 99 people there, it will cost me 155 for permit and a 155 deposit, so like I said. I need to know if people are truly interested since I dont want to just waste money. (Also figure a couple hundred for food and drinks.) We could even do a raffle while we are there with a few parts for our cars. AHEM, AZP...care to make donations?

I just posted a thread on nasioc in case anyone cares:

I will be doing the AC meet again in june it will be the last weekend of June to kick off the summer. We usually only do the top of the trop meet twice a year. I will bring it up for discussion with the guy who runs it with me on nasioc and we'll figure out whether or not we're having it at the Trop or another casino. in the previous 3 times we did the meet we never had any issues it was just because we had so many cars this time. I am going to be contacting tropicana's PR this week about holding it in june, see if they can accomodate us better and at the least they can expect us to come this time. despite what alot of people think happened Security was just being jackasses and they did dispatch the police however when the AC police showed up they didnt care.

I am all for the AC meet, just needs to actually be organized. Last time was a complete half assed attempt.

After talking with people on NASIOC, there is a lot going on that month...the same weekend is a rally and the following weekend is a tri-state mega meet. If you guys want we can reschedule this or just kick it to the curb, I can honestly care less since I am extremely busy as it is, but for the community I am willing to sacrifice.

Half assed? Let's see you keep an organized meet with 75 cars together and see if you can do better. The most cars we had at this meet previously were 45 and we had no problems..and you know 2 of the guys at the last meet were AC cops so those who did panic and moved their car were cowards because NOTHING happened. But you're right, I'm sure you'll do a much better job with organizing a meet, maybe we can "get hammered" at a bar in paramus like you suggested on nasioc, yes that's it we'll all get hammered and drive over an hour back home afterwards. Don't say the AC meet was half assed when I was able to get 75 cars out for it.

Ok, I did not in any way mean when pointing out the fact that ac went to complete shit last time and say it was the people's fault of who organized it. I have organized bigger meets than that, and if you dont know what needs to be done, you wont know until it goes wrong.

Simple as this, going down was unorganized (people were all over the place on the parkway - some in local lanes, others in express), groups were leaving before others from the rest areas), parking was unorganized (when expecting that many cars and you want things to flow nicely, you need to say XXX cars will be parking over here, XXXXX will be on this side). The only thing that went completely as planned was the restaraunt.

I dont have the time for a pissing match with you. All I am saying is look at the facts.

I had a lot of fun on that trip, but lets face it, we got there, hung out for maybe an hour, and then suddenly it was over. When you are going to a public location like that with that many cars, most of the time you need a permit.

Exactly. I am just trying to set up a meet that goes to plan and everyone has fun and brings the chance of cops f'ing it up to a minimal. Thats why I choose locations that require permits because then they cant say a damn thing.

On the contrary, I think this is the perfect forum for "arguing" or rather constructively coming to a consensus about the details. Then, you could start a new detailed thread with the meet information. Search "harriman" or "lake tiorati" as examples of successful meats that did result in mucho good stuff including day long meat, bbq, food, drink, pics, awesome drive, caravans, etc.

:)

The only cars I saw in the express lanes on the cruise down were taking rolling shots of people so I wouldn't call that disorganized. And in meets past we have only spent an hour or so on the roof before going in to eat and gamble and what not. Its how its always been done that's the point of the AC meet to hang out in AC for the day, if you want to hang out in a parking lot for 2-3 hours and check out other peoples cars go to tuner night at Edgewater or Wayne every thursday. As for parking at the trop we planned on using the one corner, which we did and filled it up completelty because of the amount of cars we had there. To get 75 subarus from 6 differant states I'd say is a success not a halfassed attempt. But I'll tell you what next AC meet I'll let you be the honorary traffic conductor to make sure everyones nice and organized for HIN atlatic city

Speaking of meets, when is the last time you showed up to an SQC meet sublo?

:( Not for at least 2 or 3 months unfortunately. New baby, new 2nd job (usually 75hrs a week), new house = I don't go out anymore at all. Sigh... I'm hoping this won't continue much longer. They meets are still ongoing however.

I have an idea, how about a chatterbox meet? Their lot can hold about 40 cars and he usually let's us park on the grass too you just need to set it up with the owner in advance...it'll be a good time then have a cruise up to the hawks nest afterwards
