Quick noob question-wheel width

if you dont mind rolling fenders, you can do a 245/40/17 on a17x8 +45 no problems

 

If you have good camber (2+ degrees), you'll need about 3/4 to 1 inch of clearance depending on low you are. If you have stock camber, you'll need more.

 

With stock suspension on 05 wagon, a 245/40/17 R1 was 2 inches beyond the fender even with the tightest et I could get (would have been a custom rim). The same tire with bc coilovers and 2.5 degrees camber, the tire was still proud of the fender about 3/4 inch.
