Zombaru
Hey guys its 19legacy97. New name seems fitting after this car has been raised from the dead. So got my self a motor with 30,000 miles and had a shop throw it in. Egr is still giving problems, And the vacuum hums quite loudly. Now if the egr valve is opened it has no effect on the idle of the motor. (Already replaced the Back-pressure transducer.) Oh yeah i got the car back from the shop with a nasty dent in the quarter panel... ffs. Anyways, I will rebuild this thing.
Zombaru
So what i'm asking first is: Is there a way for me to check the Entire vacuum system? If so how would i go about doing it?

Zombaru
DID not know that... >.< Guess it's too late now?
caschmidt
I did not know that either. Anyway I have a problem with my EGR too.. Seeing as how the engine doesn't have one but the computer thinks it does. Just follow all the vacuum lines and listen for any hissing. Shouldn't be too hard to find a leak if u have one
overspool
Your vacuum lines may be mixed up as well.
Zombaru
should i worry about the canister humming? Comparing the intakes from my 97 legacy and the 98 OB They differ vacuum wise. 2. how do you take off the EGR solenoid valve?
Zombaru
Apparantly somethings wouldn't fit from the new motor. The Coil pack is on the side of the intake manifold closest to the firewall. Also they used my old exhaust manifold because apparently the new one doesn't fit. though they used old EGR parts I have all parts they didn't use. nathaniel_h2o
i would start by smoke testing it to see if any vacuum lines are leaking. and test the EGR by conecting a vacuume to it and suck on the other end and see if it opens. and if it does pinch of the line and see if it stays open...and of course, double check to see if they are backwards. Zombaru
@nathaniel_h2o yes it holds pressure and opens. And the vacuum hoses match the ones on the OB so i guess they are right. Is there any reason as to why i shouldn't be able to hook this up to my car? They put my old one on(my new engine) and gave me this one. http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo318/Szustygesto/IMG_2712.jpg This is the exhaust i got with it. http://i387.photobucket.com/albums/oo318/Szustygesto/IMG_2713.jpg
Zombaru
Okay I am going to give all symptoms. Hopefully you guys can help me figure out whats wrong... okay Whats newly replaced? NGK Spark plugs NGK Wires. Coil pack Backpressure-transducer EGR solenoid valve. Car: 97 Legacy GT With: 96 N/A JDM 2.5L w/ HLA heads. (30,000km) Intake manifold from a 97 USDM 2.5 (250,000km) Computer from same usdm engine. Problem: Hesitation on acceleration Symptoms: Inconsistent hesitation on acceleration (sometimes it launches like a bat outta hell sometimes when i give it (small amounts) gas it slows down and almost dies. Other times i mash the gas and it crawls off the line. when going WOT from idle Arcing can be heard around the throttle body area and the engine completely misfires. Occasionally when letting off the gas while driving in 'D' it feels as if im in 3 or lower with lots of deceleration. holding the Rpms @ 1200 causes vibration that can be felt through the car. The same vibration happens during up shifts as the engine decelerates. Operating the EGR valve has NO effect on the motor. ------------------------------------------------------- I think thats it however I will update with more Symptoms as i encounter them. Zombaru
Other notes: Steering wheel was taken apart, upon reassembly they(mechanic) messed up somewhere and i no longer have a horn or airbag... horn was relocated to push button beside fog light button >.< This problem occurred in the old engine as well. So it MUST be something that was brought over from the old engine. That would include intake manifold & everything directly connected to it minus the block. Computer is the same (however i doubt this is the cause) theories (bear with me, I'm 17 and have been fiddling with engines for maybe a year now) : improper ground in multiple areas. 1)in the area where the coil pack plugs in.(this is where i believe the arc to be coming from though i can't see any shocks.) 2) steering wheel ignition (however i believe this would cause more of a major loss of power like turning off entirely) im willing to dive into this i really just don't know where to start. Or how for that matter. Will provide more details & answer questions to help trouble shoot. thanks
TexasLegacy2.5GT
My best guess is that it's the intake that was brought over (that retains the problem). Also put your horn back where it belongs.....that's just ghetto having it next to the fog light switch.
heresmymind
its probably just an unhooked clock spring behind the airbag in the steering wheel -B

Zombaru
lol, i didn't know about the accounts. Geeze Anyways.. Today start car slowly starts reving (it was cold) during this i'm outside cleaning snow but watching tach. hits 3000 check engine flashes once then drops too 1000 with a hard idle. What just happened?? Idle would repeatedly rise to 1450ish then down to 1200
Zombaru
Come to think of it. Ever since i've had it it tops out in 3rd gear. 4th gear it slows to 90mph @3500 rpm and holds. it also has like a 22-25 sec 1/4 mile It's never sounded right. I've had other legacy owners tell me this. Theres have the normal lower suby sound while mine has always kind of sounded like Baaaaaaaaaa solid tone... it's just never been right. Is my computer messed?
monkeyposeur
Hey Zombaru, I found some doors for you but they are super heavy. Are you really serious about having me ship one up to Winnepeg? As far as fenders, do you want a front quarter panel? Because if so, they are very easy to find on the web. If you are serious, you will have to find out how much a subaru door weighs and how much shipping would be from US 84105.
