06 LGT 5eat center differential failure at the track. Pics included

Recommended Posts

As you all know from my previous posts I blew out my center differential while brake boosting at the track a few weeks ago. It let loose on my 5th run while brake boosting.

I was able to source a used assembly for a great price. I installed the hexmods bushings in the used one that I have installed.

As you can see in the pictures below, the pin that goes through the planet gears sheared off. 2 of them sheared, 2 of them hadn't let loose yet.

I found several needle bearings in my pan and case BUT they are NOT from the planet gear needle bearings. As you can see most held up fine and one lost 2 needles which were still contained in the retainer.

At this point I do not know what order things failed in. I cannot say with any confidence that the failure was only due to the needle bearings in the planet gears.

I never did find the source of the needles that I picked out of the transmission. I have not studied a diagram to figure it out yet and don't really care.

I won't be doing any full boost launches. I am going to try and come up with a way to limit boost to 8-10 lbs until I lift the brake.

Pictures below for your enjoyment!

I also installed the RalliTEC transmission mount insert. I went with the hard blue version.

I can certainly feel the NVH difference. I kind of like it so far, I can actually feel my car running now vs before it was very disconnected.

Around 18psi, not sure on the rpms. It was wherever the torque converter held it. I will pull up logs tonight and post exact numbers.

Cool my best 1/4 was 13.89, I tell ppl 13.8 though lol. I'm just stage 2 catless work up, CAI, tunned by infamous. Just bought a 15' wrx. So I'm keeping the new car stock n plan to open the gates for my legacy. I plan to hit the strip Friday n came across ur forum, I brake boosted with my best time too of course but now I'm apprehensive about going all out since I don't have the knowledge/experience of fixing the shit I may break. 1-2 hard runs shouldn't hurt right lol

I'm wondering what exact components can I add to reinforce that cdiff n trans?

Any word where the bearings came from?

Nope, I haven't done any research. So far all is well.
