vagabond
Picked up a set of GT Mufflers for a different project but decided to document the fitment for people who are curious about installing them on an Outback. 2008 Outback 2.5i http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag47/boxerwerks/2008%20Outback%2025i/Exhaust/IMG_20140628_125438_zpsuntwb8xg.jpg 2005 Legacy GT Mufflers http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag47/boxerwerks/2008%20Outback%2025i/Exhaust/IMG_20140628_125117_zpsndzd0p4o.jpg Stock GT Muffler bolted on. The rear bumper pushes the tip down and stretchs the hanger. http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag47/boxerwerks/2008%20Outback%2025i/Exhaust/IMG_20140628_131152_zpsvhjk0vsf.jpg http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag47/boxerwerks/2008%20Outback%2025i/Exhaust/IMG_20140628_131205_zpslflavubm.jpg If you remove the exhaust tip it will fit properly on the hangers, however your Outback Bumper will need to trimmed. http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag47/boxerwerks/2008%20Outback%2025i/Exhaust/IMG_20140628_125133_zpsyxlfburr.jpg http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag47/boxerwerks/2008%20Outback%2025i/Exhaust/IMG_20140628_132300_zpsd1ydyrue.jpg http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag47/boxerwerks/2008%20Outback%2025i/Exhaust/IMG_20140628_132306_zpszpk8e328.jpg You have 12" from the can to a point just past your bumper cover, and 6" from the tip sans finisher to a point just past your rear bumper cover. I just had my bumper painted so I wasn't interested in cutting it today. http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag47/boxerwerks/2008%20Outback%2025i/Exhaust/IMG_20140628_141104_zps2e9vpqlc.jpg http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag47/boxerwerks/2008%20Outback%2025i/Exhaust/IMG_20140628_142032_zpsdmepgbib.jpg I welded on some new tips. The ID of the tips fit snugly over the stock tip nub which flares from 2" to 2.5" at its widest. http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag47/boxerwerks/2008%20Outback%2025i/Exhaust/IMG_20140628_145857_zpswrdbm6bx.jpg All Mounted http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag47/boxerwerks/2008%20Outback%2025i/Exhaust/IMG_20140628_155104_zps274yfgxo.jpg All done. It doesn't sound much different than stock but there is an ever so slightly better throttle response. http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag47/boxerwerks/2008%20Outback%2025i/Exhaust/IMG_20140628_155057_zpsgqks0anw.jpg Edited August 10, 2014 by vagabond
vagabond
So after a bunch of trips I can report it does have a slightly nicer tone but only in the upper rev ranges.

Splitfyre
Sorry to bring back this thread but I couldn't find any other that did the same. Will there be a difference between Legacy GT sedan and wagon mufflers? I also have a 2008 2.5i and my friend is parting out a GT sedan.
Febreze Mee
The only difference between the LGT sedan and LGT wagon mufflers is that the wagon mufflers have a little extension between the tip and the muffler itself, otherwise they have the same mounting points. Good to know! I'll take the mufflers from him and just get a shop to extend my hangers. I like the oem look and hopefully a little sound difference. Thanks for the info! Febreze Mee
Are you extending the hangers so the tips droop a little and don't interfere with your bumper? If not, extending your hangers is unnecessary. MILKRUN - Click Here
