gwt79
What is the best over-the-counter ATF for an '06 LGT? While replacing my radiator last night, I discovered, after the fact, that two of the lower hoses are associated with the transmission. Of course after removing them from the radiator, I lost a good amount of ATF. Needless to say I need to top off the ATF to compensate for the fluid I lost. Usually I would go to my dealership and pick some up but I recently moved and the nearest dealership is 2hrs away. The fluid that I so gracefully spilled all over the driveway was reddish in color. I know I dont want to mix the wrong fluid in. Any suggestions on what fluid I can buy locally?

AZP Installs
Redline High Temp ATF is what you want, very good stuff. or Motul Synthetic ATF or Subaru ATF HP Those are the good choices. -mike
KoukiS14
I use Red Line D4. It's the best balance of ATF in the Red Line range. D6 is thinner, and the High Temp is thicker. None of the would seem to be contraindicated for our application. I might try D6 next time, especially since I just noticed that it's NissanMatic S qualified. You might have a hard time finding that locally though. If you're looking for something good off the shelf, Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF would be a safe bet. ragman
$12 a quart for the Redline High Temp ATF. $7 a quart at my local dealer for the Subaru ATF. Is the Redline stuff better at 70% more expensive?
Moderators BarManBean Posted March 7, 2014 Moderators Share Posted March 7, 2014 IMO, you're better off buying twice as much ATF and doing a full / partial flush using just the pumping power from starting the car instead of only doing a drain / fill with something more expensive. AZP Installs
$12 a quart for the Redline High Temp ATF. $7 a quart at my local dealer for the Subaru ATF. Is the Redline stuff better at 70% more expensive? Our first 2 road race cars were Subaru 4EAT transmissioned cars. 1 was an SVX with inherent trans issues on those cars. The other was a 96 Impreza L. The SVX ran about 10k miles on track with the Redline Hight Temp ATF before it was traded in. The Impreza L was a full on race car, cage, striped out, and did not only sprint races but also did enduros, some as long as 8 hours at Watkins Glen. It did about 50k miles on track and had 100K on it before we started to track it. Neither car had transmission issues, in fact the Impreza L transmission was removed when we sold the car and put into my dad's 97 Legacy L where it drove another 2 years and about 25k miles more before he sold it! All the cars ran Redline High Temp ATF, so for me the slight increase in cost is well worth it. In fact when we do the 30k/60k/90k service on our customers cars they by default get either the Redline High Temp ATF or Motul Synthetic ATF as part of the service. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/153798190.jpg Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Enthusiasts since 2001.
