Kenwood GX-204RE - Code Reset?

Hi all

We've just replaced a faulty stereo (wouldn't play CDs) in a 2006 Subaru Legacy with a very similar model - GX-204RE and it seems to work ok but when you first power it on (or off) it displays "security" and when it is on, it works but the first letter of whatever is displayed flashes constantly - ie: if on FM1 then the "F" flashes or if on CD then the "C" flashes.

Perhaps it needs a code reset?

Anyone seen this before and know how to fix?

Cheers

Hi all.

I have a similar problem.

UK model 2007 Subaru Legacy Outback 2.5 Dual Fuel LPG/Petrol Auto SE with SAT NAV etc all original fitted Subaru spec including LPG Gas system also fitted by Subaru.

Problem is (SECURITY) flashing on the Radio head unit (Kenwood) model GX-204RE (see attached photo) its an original Subaru fitted unit. It does play for about 30 minutes then goes dead except for 'security' on screen. If you disconnect plug from the back it will switch on again for about 30 minutes but still displays security with flashing left top corner of display FM on our one because its in FM radio mode.

Unit was removed with combined air con controls to do some work on the car. Unit was unplugged (car battery disconnected for 3-4 days) completely removed from car.

Now all fitted back in plugs wiring checked, fuses checked ect, but Not working. Display saying security!

Subaru gave me a generic code that should work on all these head units 7602.

Can’t work out how you put the code in?

Also No Sat Nav, screen is blank just black, does not come on and the heater air conditioning controls are not working?

All plugs are in and A/C system has been serviced re-gassed today.

Cant seem to find any auto electrician's, Car Repair Garages, mechanics, radio technicians, audio system dealers or 'Subaru Specialists' that can deal with this and Subaru Main Dealer cant get it in for a month to look at it either.

Did you get yours sorted? - How did you fix it?

Thanks for reading this and hope one of you can help.

I've still had no luck sorting and I am also confused as to how you even enter a code if we do find one.

Not sure if ours cuts out after 30mins. Seems to work fine other than flashing the first letter of the display all the time (and flash "security" when it first powers on).

Google searches haven't netted any decent results either.

As mentioned in my previous post.

Subaru gave me a code: 7602 which should work in all these headsets.

But no way of putting the code in.

I think it has to be plugged in with Subaru computer software connection.

Unless anyone knows a way to program it into the headset?

My SAT NAV screen is blank also is your on or off?

Do your heater A/C Controls work?

Hello There!

I'm at the same place. I bougth a GX-204RE from a car savage to replace my non-working unit on my Outback 2005 and It happened the very same thing.

It was working for some time with the 1st digit blinking and yesterday after aproximately half our driving stopped working with the SECURITY word everytime I press any key.

I have found this on how to enter de code but NONE of the 3 options described is working for me, maybe can help others!

It was referring especifically to the GX-204RE and another Kenwood model

---->

If your car battery died, your Kenwood stereo will ask you for a code. There are various ways to enter the security code; this depends on the model of your Kenwood stereo.

Look in your manual and see what the security code is for your particular Kenwood stereo. There are common security codes on many Kenwood stereos. Kenwood claims security, but its stereos have many of the same security codes. Here are three common security codes: 1-2-3-4 (a code many Kenwood owners use), 3-0-5-1 (a common security code in Kenwood manuals) and KCAR (works on some Kenwood stereo models). You should have a code within the pages of your manual. Luckily, many Kenwood stereos have the same security codes.

Enter the security code into your Kenwood radio.

Method #1: During the code request mode, while holding the DISP key depressed, press and hold the "Volume UP" or "DOWN" key for three seconds until the " ... " display disappears. Enter the security code using your Kenwood remote.

Method #2: Press the "Auto" and "Track Up" button on the face of radio at the same time until the four dash lines disappear. Enter the security code using your Kenwood remote.

Method #3: Press and hold the "One" then the "Six" preset keys until the display shows the letter "C." Enter the security code using your Kenwood remote.

Tips:

If you did not have your manual, try the most common codes for Kenwood stereos. If those codes don't work, you can also buy your Kenwood stereo code online. There are places online that will sell you the security code to your Kenwood stereo.

Keep your security code and this information in a safe place.

----<

I also found several websites giving the service of unlocking the device, you give them the model and the serial numbers and they provide the code for a fee. Are this sites legit?? Is not expensive, but I'm afraid these are physting sites to stole your credit card data.

Thanks!

I have been thinking about this issue.

I found on internet that this units seem to be linked to car in some way.

When the battery car dies, upon restart, the head units ask for a code itself, showing four dashes on the display.

When a head unit changes car (as is our case) the unit simply blocks itself, thinking is a stolen unit.

will make sense isn't??
