silicone for windows seals?

I did nothing special for my Forester's seals other than wipe them with a damp cloth every now and then. They had no problems sealing after 6 years. I think Subaru knows their frameless windows. Ken

There are actually a couple of products out there specifically for this purpose. It's not a dumb idea at all, and depending on where the car spends it's time and what elements it's exposed to, it may be of real benefit. I would bet that the maintenance schedule even suggests applying something to the seals at 15K intervals or around there. My GTP manual did! Since I tend to keep my cars forever, I will definitely be using something on my seals when needed! I'm probably way overdue on the seals of my Wife's '03 Legacy with 33,000 miles already.

The best product I've found for window and door seals is called Gummi-Pflege. No, I didn't make it up. It's sold at BMW dealers and I think it works better than silicon. I started using it last winter to stop my GTI doors and hatch from squeeking, after trying silicon and some other products.
