How much faster is the 5th gen GT vs. the 4th gen?

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of upgrading to a 2010+ Legacy GT from my 2007, and just out of curiosity I was wondering if the newer LGT is faster than the 05-09 GT. If they were both manual transmission cars, would the new one be faster at all?

"faster" is a vague term

quarter mile time?

WHP numbers?

The 2010+ can get more power with less mods, generally speaking. The LGT stage 1 (no mods, just re-tuning the stock car) does quite well. Here are COBB's rated specs for Stage 1 with each car.

COBBS release for 2011:

2010:

Stage1: +14% HP and +30% TQ

2007:

Stage 1: +4.0% HP and +9.0% TQ

Yeah I guess I am talking more real world 0-60 and quarter mile time numbers. It strikes me as a bigger car with the same engine, but I was curious.

My guess is no because 5th gen are bigger which means more weight and still have a similar power output?

The 5th gen manual adds less than 50 lbs over 4th gen manual. Chump change. The 5th gen power is developed in the lower RPMs. See below for a few comparisons on the same dyno....

Gear ratios hurt. You have to shift more with a 5th gen, than you would in a 4th gen.

But, really, just like every other Subaru, they are the same. A 1994 Impreza is just as fast, and just as fun to drive as a 2010 Impreza.

That could be Subaru's new marketing campaign.

stick with your 4th gen IMHO... how many miles on your LGT now?

50,000 miles, 2007 Black on Black with the manual transmission. I love the car, and put on front and rear swaybars which completely changed the way it behaves on turns for the better, the difference was unreal. No real reason to sell, but I really like that new interior. Other than that the new LGT looks less nimble and maybe a bit too big.

Interesting. I feel like the interior on my 4th gen is much higher quality.
