compsurge
about $440-480 for the set of four.
sti_044
Fast, Cheap or Good, pick 2. While you can get coilovers for $500, they are not terribly good. Pricing on the inserts run in the $600-700 range depending on which reseller you purchase them from. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. Ya, you can get a decent-good set of coilovers for 800-1000. Just wouldn't make any sense to me to buy these for not much less, plus you need to buy springs, and they don't do nearly as much as coilovers
NWSPECB
Some would actually argue that a good spring paired with Konis performs and rides better than the $800-$1000 coilovers.
compsurge
Konis with comfortable sport springs will perform exceptionally well. My car is not a race car. I find Epics fairly tame, but extremely fun in the corners. As I've also said before, Konis also work extremely well with S-Techs, making the ride fairly compliant on the highway (still some toughness on the big bumps). Handling is still pretty good. This is a good setup for teh drop.

m sprank
From the wall at the Tat parlor in Nanuet NY (I had work done their twice and for some reason cannot remember the name of the shop right now): "Good tattoos are not cheap and cheap tattoos are not good". Sooooo true and it works with many trades/products.

m sprank
I think he meant the Epic vs Eibach springs. Yes, Epic IS Eibach Pro Kit. When Eibach stopped producing the Pro-Kit under their own name they sold the rights. Epics are produced by Eibach (Riverside California) using the same materials and specs. Only known difference is the paint color used.

m sprank
Epics have the isolator on them too. Even a black one just like the Pro-Kit (now, they originally had a clear one) I have said this a million times before, a coil spring does not squeak. Metal on metal might chatter/clatter or make other noises (it is the progressive coils in the rear that will compact and act as a "preload"). But a coil does not "squeak". A hardened rubber upper spring perch (top hat on an LGT rear) can deff cause "squeaking" between the rubber and the spring. If swapping springs on a car with over 60k (or a car that sees real weather like the east coast) I recommend installing new top hats with the springs. Not trying to bust chops with AZP. I know that Mike has deff had customers complain of squeaking rear springs. IIRC the "fix" was to grease the top hats. Which reinforces my belief that it is hardened rear top hats causing the noise. Here on the West Coast we have had ZERO complaints of noise. The complaints that Mke at AZP handled were after I left the east coast, so we could not investigate together (bummer). cypher0117
I've had my eibach+koni setup for ~2.5 years now and never once heard a squeak. The spring/strut setup has about 45k miles on them and the only noise I've heard is a clunk from the fronts ever so often - and that is likely due to my 94k mile tophats
AZP Installs
Sorry but we never greased the top hats and the epic springs do not have any isolator covering. At least the ones we have installed did not. The only time the greasing worked was in between the actual coils. Perhaps it was due to road junk getting up in between the coils but regardless an OEM style spring should not do this. It's not a big deal to put on the grainger tubing when installing the springs which is what we do now as an SOP. Perhaps the batch of springs that our warehouse or the warehouse on the east coast (usually Fred beans) got was different than those you have on the west coast? Wouldn't be the first time there were different runs of what seems to be the same product. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. Bolksey85
I have no real dog in this fight but I opened my Epics to peek at them and all four springs have about a 6" piece of tubing or hose on them.

Ok. Gotcha. My misunderstanding of what was being greased. All should have had isolators. We had the first batch of 100 show up with clear isolators. When we heard the "noise" complaints from AZP we went back to Eibach and inquired. The next batch of 50 springs had a black isolator. We were told the only difference was the color. I have never seen a single set of Epics without the isolators. Odd.

Yeah we haven't installed any "new" Epics in probably a year or so, so the ones in question were old stock ones from the first or second run of Epic springs that were put out. So that is likely the confusion. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. LeGiT_Flat4
I got my Epics from msprank in June 2012 and they were from the batch with clear isolators. All I know is the rears "squeaked" like a banchee until I greased between the dead coils after reading that was one way people were dealing with it with some degree of success. It doesn't make sense to me but that was my experience.

Here in the Northeast the grease only lasted for a month or so, so we started to use the Grainger tubing and it has fixed the issues on what we would call a permanent basis. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts.
