urdrwho
I still don't know what model or year my EJ25 transplant came out of and I want to order some spark plug wires. Does it matter if it was out of a Forrester or Outback EJ25? Does the year matter?
BrandonVonDoom
I know for one, if you take the oil cap off, you can peek inside the lid and see the actual manufacture date of the engine. Not sure of how to check the actual model though :/
urdrwho
The cap has an 02. Hm, how do I know it is the cap that was set on the original engine? Zues Marine
what? no.. nevermind the cap ej25 parts are the same 96-
johnegg
ej25 parts are the same 96-98 zues is right they are all the same. except when they are not. and i do not know when or if they made changes between years. IF, IF, IF, they changed the coil from female to male, i am unaware. i think the best solution is for you to buy plug wires for your year from a local parts store, fully expecting to never use them and to return them. local allows this to be easy. keep trying years until you find the ones that fit. then return them saying you did not need them. then order the correct year from the online dealer. these cars are exactly like legos. almost all parts will plug into each other. your engine may be from a year with a different coil and wire setup of earlier years, but the long block and computer are NO DIFFERENT. as long as the wires fit onto the coil , and as long as the wires are very HIGH quality, they will work. cheap wires will give you headaches. nightspeed98
I have on occasion used rockauto to match parts to specific years/motors. Find a part number and cross reference. May narrow your search.
Zues Marine
what does the plug look like for this coil you have? maybe you should just swap the whole thing out with an MSD and NGK Wires if it's the 3 wire i dont see why you couldnt throw even a female-oem one on there
Demonic13
I have a 2007 Legacy with an Ej253 motor and wanted to know if I order the forged crank, rods and pistons for my internally blown motor that are listed for Ej25's and Ej257 motors if they will fit? If so what are the year ranges I wan work with. Also, mine is SOHC and I want to order DOHC heads. Will they bolt to the block and will my intake bolt right with it? I plan on future turbo charging my motor. Just want to know if the 2000-2009 Ej25 parts are interchangeable with each other. Thanks
johnegg
any where you order suabru crank, rods and pistons SHOULD ask for the vin. this guarantees the parts will fir your car. as for DOHC heads, it may depend on the year, but they will probably bolt on to the block. the intake is a different matter. the 96 - 99 ej25D intake will not mate with the ej251 / 253 heads. i don't know about the later heads. but later engines may not work since they changed the valve stuff to ''variable''?? idk. better to stick to your year group. and why are you rebuilding your engine? you can get back on the road for less money than a rebuild. either good used, with some risk, check out http://www.car-part.com , or a jdm swap with less risk. google japanese engines. i bought a 00 lego wagon w/82k miles. the first month i had it it spun a rod bearing. i bought a local used 01 engine w/125k, i put my heads and intake on the 01 block, the head gaskets were leaking, oozing. and 2 years later it is driving happily. i got lucky and bout the engine for $400 from a wrecked part out. good luck.
