ethank
My budget for this is 400-430$ ( all I can currently afford) now, I'm happy with the sound of my 1997 Subaru Legacy GT (2.5) but I want it to be louder. I have a magnaflow muffler installed already and my resonator welded off. I just need something to make it louder, and I've been told both a UEL header would make it louder & give it more rumble. But a downpipe & midpipe replaced would make it louder than a header, I don't want to buy a header off eBay and then have it not make a difference in the volume, any suggestions? scoobyscoodle
You should never buy a header off ebay. EVER. It sounds like you want volume, an UEL won't really give you much more volume, or power for that matter. Get a high flow downpipe. If you need more volume, cut off your muffler, replace with pipe. scoobydoobie
There is no downpipe on an n/a subaru. EBay Borla replica header is actually decent and less prone to cracking than the actual Borla header for n/a models. The gaskets that come with it are terrible though. wurkenman
Just do a good cat back system. You will not gain much on that engine with a header if more rumble is all you are after. If you woke up today, you have another chance to do it right.
ethank
So I got a quote for two high flow cat converters for 680$ total. A little past my budget, I can save for it but I'm not sure if it would improve the sound volume. The mechanic seems to think it will since they are high flow, compared to my stock ones. I asked him about the header and he agreed that it wouldn't change the volume of the sound that much, and would be better to do the two high flow cat converters. Does anyone agree? Do I have any other cheaper options that would increase the volume?
BAC5.2
Cut off the muffler and replace with a piece of pipe. Gawnshanning
Buddy of mine has uel headers for my car but they are 2.25" piping. I see for the GT the piping is 2.5" is there a noticeable difference? I have a NA car. Btw would it also bolt in fine if I bought the GT verison? looks like the same bolt patterns and size
scoobydoobie
Header is different for 4th gens as the turbo models have an UP and the n/a do not ...
