jamesm113
So I need two inner tie rods and boots, but don't have a dealer in the area. Is there anywhere I can get the boots except from the dealer? Anybody have any experiences with any aftermarket tie rod ends? I can get Raybestos service grade for $9/each, Deeza for $15 and Moog for $20. Also, O'reilly and autozone have their own house brand tie rod with a lifetime warranty for ~$25 Thanks! jamal
the moog ones are really nice- they have a good anti-corrsion coating and bigger wrench flats
jamesm113
Alright, I went ahead and ordered the Moogs. Any ideas about getting replacement boots though?
Crossle
KYB boots are "nice", but rubber is rubber in my mind. +1 on the MOOG parts, they are usually better than OEM, since they come with grease fittings when servicing balljoints, outer tie rods, end links, etc....usually factory parts do not. Obviously a generalization, but most cars don't.
jamesm113
oh, i guess they aren't called tie rod boots- they are called rack and pinion bellows, that's why i couldn't find them. Thanks all!
jamesm113
Any tricks to getting the outer tie rod end lock nut off? I can't get it to budge, and I've tried pb blaster, heating with a propane torch for a few minutes (though it never got red hot), and hitting with a hammer to loosen it up.
