Info on OB to GT suspension geometry. (Removing spacer)

Recommended Posts

The MT and AT crossmembers are not interchangable. From this thread, a few pages back.

Im in the middle of doing this swap. I got the rear done and went to check out the transmission cross members. I have an automatic outback xt and i bought the cross members from a manual legacy b spec. As it turns out they are not the same. The automatic looks completely different. I need to know if anyone knows about the cross members on the automatics. I assume they are different but I cannot find any info on part numbers or anything.

I will continue looking but im hoping someone here can give me an answer. If worse comes to worse can I leave the rear how it is and finish it later you think? I dont want to have to reverse the work ive done so far.

Automatic Trans Crossmembers:

'05-'09 LGT 5AT - 41011AG02A

'05-'09 OBXT 5AT - 41011AG03A

Cushion Rubber is the same for both (41022AG10A).

Now here are all the parts and the diferences.

Front spacer removed and the difference in the bolt is not the length but the amount of thread

Okay can someone tell me where this goes within the front suspension setup? Going back up and I can't remember/figure it out

Hey guys,

Recently I swapped my Legacy GT struts and springs for some 2009 Outback wagon struts and springs. Now looking at the kit I got it looks like I have the rear mounting bracket on the front lower control arm assembled incorrectly. Could any of you help me out with a picture of what your assembly looks like?

attached is a pic of mine:

so are you going Legacy to Outback? Your LCA bushing also looks to be shot. If you are going Outback to Legacy you need the Legacy piece.

looks like you are missing a spacer

Yea, legacy to outback I noticed the bushings after I put the car back on the ground, they weren't showing before

And isn't that a legacy mounting bracket and not an outback one?

Yeah, look an like musing spacer.

Look and the bracket, it looks like it's bent upwards instead of parallel to the body/ground.

Nope. everything in that picture is Outback. It's my car and I haven't swapped anything in the front.

The legacy mounting bracket is straighter ---- I think.

hmmm... okay do you think that the bolt on the legacy gt is just shorter overall though? from what I remember after examining the bracket, it didn't appear to be bent or manipulated in any way. all of the bends in it looked like it came that way. I'll take it off though this afternoon and take a better look at it.

I'll also look into the spacer situation and see if I can't track anything down.

Thank you all for the feedback

Looks like the Legacy GT one is shorter - golden looking one.

I'd like to go Koni struts and LGT springs. I've seen obxt rear springs and LGT fronts recommended a few times, but haven't found any first hand feedback. Is there anyone currently running that setup?

I ran a full used lgt set up on my outback and the back was really saggy and bottomed out often. I then switched out the rears for my outback and gave it a real nice rake and didn't bottom out.

I'm now on koni/epic with 1/4 rear spacer and it rides nice with a even drop. I sometimes bottom out. Eventually I need to change my upper control arms. Megan uca are backed ordered.

I have a set of lgt spring for sale. Pm me an offer.

Also had obxt rear springs and leggy fronts with konis all around. Really liked how it felt but it looked over raked aesthetically to me. Can't remember if I had a 3/8" spacer on it or not, was worried it would be saggy. Currently I'm on leggy rear springs and 1/2". Hope this helps.

Obxt rear springs (w/ 3/8"spacers???)

Sorry no current profile shots with Leggy springs and 1/2" spacers. One day I'll try swapping out the rear springs to OBXT ones to see and feel it out again.

Wow this is exactly what I'm looking for, thanks.

Think obxt springs with no spacer will solve the rake issue and level the car?

I'm interested in doing this swap myself, however I was wondering if I'd be able to do it partially. I was hoping I can swap all of the parts mentioned but leave the OB driveshaft, 2 shift rods, and the rack and pinion alone. I just had the rack replaced under my extended warranty at the local dealership.

I fail to see how those parts would affect the geometry of the suspension, but then again I'm a novice to this stuff. Would this negatively affect my suspension - if so in what way?

i'm not sure what the big deal is. i bought used struts and springs off of a legacy gt wagon. direct swap, no problems, fairly easy. the alignment was aweful. so got an alignment asap. the alignment shop said my rear toe is just out of spec, but not enough to effect anything. i like the level stance, very little rake, no saggy butt spacers.my only problem is front tires rub at full turn or big bumps.
