Anyone Daily drive 255/40/17?

I've looked at all the wheels and tires stickies, and done a search but want to seek your advice.

 

I have a '05 LGT, suspension is stock.

Front brakes are upgraded; pads and rotors. Calipers stock.

 

My wheels are XXR 518 size: 17x8.5 48 offset.

 

What is the proper size tire i should be running?

I don't want to be taller than stock overall diameter.

Which is how i arrived at considering 255/40/17 instead of 245.

 

Don't want to have to roll my fenders, but i could if needed.

I do plan on lowering the car in the future on Eibachs.

in one photo you can see how the tires have a slight stretch to them, in the other you can see how the edges of the tread have worn from aggressive driving.

 

its hard to tell, but theres a slight buldge in the sidewall between the letter "P" and the arrow with the word "rotation" written on it. thats why I'm thinking its time for new tires. these ones arent holding up.

you can run 255/40/17 if......

 

1. 8.5" wide rim minimum with +48mm offset or lower. depeding on the tire i still may u in the inside s you would have offet a lower offset

2 you will need to roll/pull your fenders alot and lots of camber. rear camber arms will help.

3 coilovers w/ camber plates required with stiff springs so you wont bottom out the fender on the tires side wall

 

bottom line is there is just not enough room under the fender to do this without making more room and getting all the spacing just right. Do all this and you can do it safely.

 

for a daily driving tire, 245/40/17 is closest to stock and much easier to fit. but if you have your heart set on 255 then it can be done.

i dont have my heart set on 255, i just didnt want the reduction in gear ratio brought on by going up in diameter.

I'm confused. From biggest to smallest diameter:

 

255/40/17 > 245/40/17 > 215/45/17 (STOCK) > 235/40/17

 

245/40/17 is closer to stock than 255/40/17

 

There's only 0.1" larger diameter in 245/40 than stock 215/45. You won't even notice it.
